So I got the unpainted dash kit and painted it to match the outside color.

I think it added an improvment plus we took door panels off and painted the gray strip on it to match.

It wasn't too pricy but add just enough for me to improve the look and continue the color scheme.

Or you could save the money on the dask kit and just paint the actual pieces...

Personally, I think that the dash kits don't fit right.

1st it would look quite different as the paint job would be so obvious. I don't think the edges would be clean or sharp unless you took the dash out and painted a whole section. If you haven't bought the dash kit, how can you assume it doesn't fit correctly??? Have you asked someone who has purchased a kit for this vehicle? I know that there are several on the market now, but I CAN say mine fit with no problems, triming, or adjusting.

My kit is a smooth material. I can tell you it fits great and is a whole lot easier to attach to the existing dash than taking a dash out to paint.

Of course it is personal preference. Looking at the plain dash and it says cheap to me, nice design but cheap materials as are the door panels. Solid plastic, no padding... Just because we love the car doesn't mean we have to cover up some of it's drawbacks. ie. placement of window controls and cup holder placment.

I enjoy my HHR and am proud of it. But the dash was BORING to me, so I took a chance, got the kit and made changes I really like.

ps- I sit on the inside of the car, I have down some mods on the outside, flames, etc., but since I'm in more than out of the car, I wanted a "mod" I could see while inside. Hence, the dash kit.

Is the orange you used 1Bad the sunburst, interior or exterior? It looks good to me.

What I meant about not fitting right is that there are huge gaps on either side of the radio section and the vent holes seem too big.

But if you like it...who am I to complain??

The paint I used was the sunburst touch-up spray from my Chevy dealer.

They both look good, but my personal taste is to paint the actual interior pieces like 1 BAD HHR. I agree that the kit just doesn't fit quite right.

I also started to paint the dash on my black HHR. Not to sure what all will get painted, but it;s a start. And yes Sindy I know about the floor mats. It's been raining all week, So I but my Michelin floor mats back in.
