Nice! Great to see you keep ‘em clean and drive them often!

2008 LS Panel with 174k, just standard maintenance

I just replaced my 2007 Red LS Panel with a 2008 Silver LS Panel.
According to Carfax, it has only received maintenance stuff.

The fist thing I did was had the air conditioning serviced.
It needed shocks, struts, the things that go on top of the struts, and rear door latches.
The control arms have not arrived yet. But, with just the new struts this thing drives like a race car. Even with my tools and ladders loaded.

2011 2LT 2.4L auto with 161,000 miles. Only major repair was timing chain and tune up at 100,000 miles. Now I’m having a hard shifting issue at about 40-45mph. No CEL, scanned for any codes nothing and no traction control light either. Sometimes it does it right away other times not. Sometimes if you feather them gas pedal it won’t do it, if you floor it from a dead start sometimes smooth and at highway speeds smooth. Tends to do it after sitting overnight then won’t do it until it sits again for a few hrs. Sometimes seems kinda sluggish on power other times it will bake the tires if you floor it. Just recently changed the fluid as it was due and no metal inside and wasn’t horrible looking just dark as expected. Didn’t make a difference with hard shift. Anyone else have this issue?

That seems more like the O/D or 4th and the torque converter locking up at the same time, it might need new solenoids. If one is starting to fail change them all, right fastsuv?

Thanks. Thing is I don’t want to throw parts at it since any sensor or solenoids should throw codes. It’s never had a trans flush but at this mileage would probably be a bad idea. I would think if old fluid inside it clogging the lines from not being flushed it would act up all the time and not run great after a few mins like 2-5mins later no issues until it sits for awhile then driven again. So hard to trust shops and not sure they could scan the transmission and tell anything if no codes.

Yes, if it turns out a solenoid needs replacing, replace all 4 solenoids and maybe the pressure switch. Parts are pretty cheap, the labor to get to them is not.

My daughters HHR was also acting sluggish on acceleration, but she didn't tell me. That usually means its in a too-high gear, which puts a huge load on transmission clutches. Her car finally burned out the clutches and I had to replace the transmission.

Also, what was used to read the codes? Not all code readers can read the "enhanced codes". A good transmission shop can read a lot of stored information, like internal pressure, etc. My minivan was acting funny sometimes, with hard shifts. The transmission shop read the trans info and he said clutches were worn and the trans was automatically upping the pressure to maximum to try and compensate.

Have a appointment in two weeks and will just let HHR sit. Is it normal for a transmission to have problems at 161,000 miles? I’m the second owner and it had 19,000 miles on it and we take care of our vehicles and first one to ever have this many miles. Last car had150,000 miles and no transmission issues with it. Just wondering if this is a common HHR issue?

oh and no codes ever came up and during inspection and didn’t trust the knowledge of shop that does our inspections to check trans. I just use a universal OBD2 scanner.
