Don't know if would apply in all cases, but, it seems like a lot of folks that have had problems with the key in the ignition have had the problem solved when the shifter assembly was replaced (Under Warranty)! We've had no trouble since ours was done several Months ago.

Well it happened again this morning, just would not turn. But after trying both key's and with 20 min.'s going by one of the key's turned the switch and off I went.
My other problem now is I'm out of warranty by 600 miles. But I have been telling the dealership that this has happened many time's now. I'm hoping when it does TOTALY FAIL GM will cover repairs under warranty ???

mine happened the week of the 25th, as I think the others did. Mine was the first one in They just replaced the whole shifter assembly. We all set up appoints that week

We have had ours only 3 weeks. Used 07 with 31000. It happened this morning when my wife got to work. Key would not come out. Took it straight to the dealer and by lunch I had a new shifter assembly. They appoligized and asked if there was anything else they could do to help. Said the new ones are redesigned to avoid this happening. I thanked them and drove off. Still haven't run the first tank of gas out of it yet.

Well I took my HHR to the dealer yesterday at about 3pm. The key would not come out. I used to be able to pull the key out after playing with the shifter but now it's stuck. Left it at the dealer overnight and they should be calling me sometime today, hopefully.
