Just bought a 2008 2LT HHR

Just picked up a 2008 Sandstone 2LT HHR for the wife. I ditched my 1995 Mustang GTS for something more gas/family friendly. I have a 1983 Mustang GT racecar for fun so no need for something like that anymore. I am definately impressed with the rear leg room. We had 4 adults and a 5 year old in it and everyone was comfortable. I took a small 1100 mile road trip this weekend and averaged 29mpg. I am impressed with the acceleration out of the 2.4. I do have a question.

The dealer put 3000 miles for the oil changes. How often do you guys change your oil? I know the owners manual say when the computer tells ya too or once a year, but that seems a little too long to me.

I just follow the 3000 mi rule. That may be over doing it, but she's worth it.

As a rule, follow manufacturers instructions. Too many of us think we know better.

I usually change mine after it gets below 10% by the DIC. I had one sample tested at 6% and could have easily reset the DIC and let it run another cycle.

Use a good quality filter (not Fram) and a good quality syn.oil and you can get 6000 miles between changes.

I use to say I wouldnt put a Fram even on Chevy, but guess I cant say that anymore :). This is the first Chevy I have owned since my 1990 S-10.

I usually change it every 3,000 miles.... or about 4 months. I don't drive very far, and this is the nicest (newest) car I've ever owned. I probably overdue it, but like someone else said...it's worth it!
