Leak in back of HHR
Leak in back of HHR
Hi All.
I have a 2009 HHR and it started a leak on Sunday at the back of the HHR.. I had my guy check it out and before he took it he said the leaked fluid smells like gas. He checked and all fuel lines look good but he wants me to put cardboard below to see what it is.
He thought it might be fuel that is like a gas travels up to the engine and when I shut the car off it comes back to the gas tank. He thinks there might be something wrong with some e85 knob or something that might be leaking.
I don't notice it on the gas tank. Any more ideas on what I should do. This group has been so helpful to me in the past.
I really love this car and want to keep it to until it dies. +
Thank you for all your help previously and in future.
Thanks Al

"Leak in the back" doesn't tell me much.
Is it just in front of the driver side rear wheel? That would be he gas line has rusted through under some insulation, where you can't see.
There are 2 lines one is for the fuel, the other is for vapor.
Your guy doesn't seem to know much. I have no idea what a "e85 knob" could be.

Sorry all.
My guy knows I dont. I know nothing about cars.
I will put cardboard down tonight.
It is leaking the in the middle of the back of the car. The e85 might not be a knob but something else. I didn't remember what he said.
Sorry all. Im a bit of an idiot at cars

E85 is just a blend grade of gasoline for Flex fuel rated cars. (Notice the Flex Fuel badge on the back of your car ?)
Anyhow. Not sure how E85 was mentioned when talking about a fuel leak. Wouldn’t matter what kind of gas you’re using. A fuel leak is a leak.
Yes. Find yourself a better repairman. There’s no knob or switch for flex fuel. Read your Owners Manual. Plenty of info in there about Flex Fuel.

He also said something about gas or gas vapor at the front of the car or engine when I shut the car off it goes back to the gas tank and that may be it.
But then again The poor guy was dealing with a total car moron.
Sorry all. I really am a car moron.

If you use the rear window washer there could be that fluid. That is the only other fluid that can come from the rear of the car, unless somehow water is getting into the spare tire stowage area, look in the Owner Manual to find that.
There is a link in my sig to get free pdf Owner Manuals. Reading it should get you past the "moron" stage.
