LS factory upgrades

Hello everyone, I am wondering what factory upgrades I am able to add to my 2007 LS.

Example, I know the connector for the fog light switch is there but not the connectors for the lights themselves. I have been told that I can install steering wheel stereo controls but what about a factory XM radio antenna and receiver? I have seen the wiring harness on ebay but would there be somewhere for it to connect to my chassis wiring? How about a factory amp/sub? Not that that one is really high on the list but are the connections there?

Anything else I can add? Slightly larger tires? What kinds of aftermarket parts are worthwhile? It will never be a show car, just a commuter.

Thanks!
Mike

you can do pretty much anything to it, just depends on what you want to do
stock tire size for LS is 16"..you can go up to 18" comfortably without it rubbing 225/40/18 for example will fit fine and is what the SS runs.

the steering wheel controls for the radioyou will have to get the buttons and harness, there are threads on here on how to do it, its a bit tricky since you have to take off the airbag (scary for me lol so I didnt do it lol)

for the fog lights, wyou willl have to get a whole kit which will include the lights and wiring etc since there is nothing there on the LS. It will have to be a custom job, and put a relay and toggle switch in so you can bypass the cars computer.

for an amp/sub, there is no wiring there.. you might as well do a custom box maybe in the compartment where the spare tire is..or if you want you can put it in the stock location on the rear driver side paneling - just a warning its a pain in the butt to get all those panels off and then to run wiring etc! and also its hard to find the stock box to put back there since its an oddly shaped box as well.

i have an LS and some mods i have done is that its tuned by HPT, got a new Cold Air Intake (CAI) from Airaid..some pros and cons on replacing stock air box but i like it, only thing is that you lose some bottom end power and gain higher end (i found this to be true for me). I put in a larger header, and larger Downpipe which runs in to my cat-back Magnaflow exhaust- its louder!! you might not want that lol but i wanted a bit more of an aggressive sound to the exhaust. Also added 18" rims - 2.2L struggles to move the heavier size and gas mileage went a bit down but not a huge deal..still awesome on gas! Upgraded sound system - radio, speakers, amp/sub, Depo headlamps with HIDs. LS comes with FE1 suspension, so i swapped to FE5 (found on SS) much stiffer ride and more stable with the addition of a rear sway bar!

Im sure there is more but cant think of anything at the moment

Just to correct skylines post. SS's came stock with 225/45/18's. Not 40 series.

Thanks a lot! Would the computer need to be reprogrammed for the larger tires or will it somehow learn?

YES!!

Were the fog lights easy to install? Do they use the factory switch? What about the sub? Where does that plug in to anyway? I looked at mine earlier today and there is nothing behind that panel.

I'm looking for the parts to add the steering wheel radio controls. The switch isn't a problem, it's the harness and trim piece I can't find. I did find a 6 disc changer though.

Is that an XM/Onstar antenna? That's the other mod I want to do, was yours factory? Any idea if that would work with aftermarket head units? Any more pictures of your car?

I picked a new Cobalt SS leather steering wheel from ebay a year or so ago. Had the radio controls in the wheel and it was a straight swap. Plug and play. Easier than trying to figure out the wiring.

I got the complete headlight/fog light wire harness that went from the fuse box out of ebay. So it was just a remove and replace for me. It does use the factory switch. If you pull off your radio bezel look in between the 2 air vents you should see the fog light harness that goes to the switch.

See this thread On how I did it.

You can browse Nalley Chevys web site for parts but its best to go to the dealer.
