A National Run
Karen, that is one of the thigns that we mentioned this would just be a start and then move it every year, many large clubs and organizations do just that...so yes I agree with you...Pat

Have it on the North side one year, The South side the next, then the East, then the West. That takes care of 4 yrs. To do a Great job with all that want to attend, it should take over a year to get out all of the fine details worked out. This way each direction has a chance on goiong.

I think we all agree with you 100%. I would definately not want to attend a Big run every year in the middle of America. I have lived there all my life. I would love to go other places that I have not been to. Heck I wouldn't have been at Starved Rock this weekend if someone hadn't spent the time to plan it.
I look at the Atlantic City run next year and wish I could go to that...I have never been to the East or West coast. I agree with you 100% that it needs to move around. I look at this as an opportunity to possibly go somewhere that I would not of gone in the first place.
Your suggestion is 100% right on..

If you simply read the times of my posts - the first post on this forum was made at 10:23am. The post you copied from another forum (bad forum etiquette btw), was made at 2:31pm - over four hours later.
Don't accuse me of lying or dishonesty when I made that post long after the fact.
As a vendor, and someone who works with GM as well, it is my job to get a "feel" for where a majority of HHR owners would like to see an event. I am free to use any means I choose to do so. My experience in the automotive industry is extensive, and my contacts are many. To gain corporate sponsorship for a large-scale national event (*where it runs in the thousands just to rent the venue), requires showing companies that you can bring in attendance figures. They won't commit unless you can guarantee the numbers.
While in good faith, even 30-50 people agreeing to meet in Wisconson Dells isn't going to a) pay for rental of the venue, or b) garner any corporate sponsors. Sounds great - but it also sounds very "regional" - not National. By distance alone you are excluding most of the HHR ownership west of the Rockies.
Now personally, I'd love to see an HHR run to Key West. Hundreds of HHR's running in a long line down the Intercoastal Highway! That would make a dozen great commercials for GM. However, I don't think attendance would be on a "national" level either. It would have to be more of a regional event.
My intentions are not to "stir things up" - but this is a forum and we should be able to discuss things in a mature manner without starting a "my region has the BEST people" attitude. Just because a dozen folks in the midwest want a run in Wisconsin doesn't make it a majority. You should really gather input from members in several regions before deciding on a location, and then only when you can get commited numbers to attend. If you plan on making this an annual event - planning the first one should be done carefully to "exclude" as few regions as possible.
Just my
I hoped for opinions on a National Run and instead of dicussion there is desention, people arguing and getting upset and the location wasn't even decided. I too have a vast amount of automotive event experience and experience with corporate sponsors...and I have promoted large events in the past, so I too am aware of what is necessary to make this successful. I am afraid to say that the biggest need for a large run is support and this grop still can't seem to discuss issues without an argument or atttack, so I think I will pull back any mention of a large run and go back to having my fun.
Discussion could have built a great run, but all this is doing is creating more bad feelings and I promised myself that when I came back it "fun or done" . I am happy to enjoy the company of my friends and hope to meet more of you in the future...

If you guys actually organize a large run I'm pretty sure I'll be there. Like mentioned before I'm sure no matter where you guys choose to do it somebody is going to object to the location. I say go through with your plans and whoever is willing to go we'll see there. Wisconsin is way more central to the US than the last proposed location of Colorado. Not to mention everyone is forgetting we have Canadian members and the location you chose also seems pretty convenient for our Canadian members who want to attend. If you are going to take the time and effort to plan something like this then you should have the right to pick the location. The location should logically be somewhere convenient to you so you can properly plan the event. Besides it seems to me that you chose this location for the first year and there doesn't seem to be any objections to changing the location every year so we don't keep visiting the same place. The location shouldn't even be debated. I'm sure the people who want the location changed aren't willing to put the time and effort into planning an event at their proposed location anyways. Go for it and don't let any of the bickering discourage you!

If you make it they will come..
To attend the Starved Rock Get- together and meet some awsome people for 8 hours, I put 18 hours driving time and 1094 miles to the effort.
If I had time to plan Florida, California, New York, Seattle is not out of the driving area. It is about meeting, and having fun.
If Chevy can keep HHRs supported hitting 48 states in the next 48 years would be lots of fun. It needs to start somewhere.
