Need a new engine for the chevy HHR 2008
Hello all! I have a question that I haven't found an answer for. I need a new engine for a chevy HHR 2008 2.0 ltr turbo, I am having trouble finding one for that year. Could I use a 2009 or any other engine without having troubles with it? I figured as long as it's a chevy HHR 2.0 there would be no problem but I'd like to make sure. And if anyone knows where to get one for a good price preferably under 70k miles that would be awesome! I just bought the car for 300$ bc it had a seized engine! Thank you!

Welcome to the site, there's places that'll sell you an engine, you might need to transfer some parts like the alternator, the exhaust and turbo, it could cost more then purchasing a new engine from Summit, Jegs, or ZZP.
At least then you get a warranty of sorts and new part. Chances are your turbo is toast anyways! ZZP https://zzperformance.com/ecotec/ldk-long-block.html |
Hmm. The OP must be related to member Kubee's from Arkansas. Same question a month back regarding a $300 SS and needing an engine. We tried to give some info to Kubee's but they never returned to follow up that thread.
Seems we may be talking about the same car. |

The HHR SS was only made 3 years 2008-2010. They all had the same 2.0L turbo engine. Production numbers were about the same for the 08, 09's. Not really sure why you can't find an 08 but say you can find 09's everywhere. I'm thinking those 09's may not all be the 2.0 turbo.
Regular HHR's had the 2.2L or 2.4L non turbo. Someone may be claiming their regular 2.2 as a 2.0. No, you can't interchange a 2.0L for the 2.2L. As far as getting a 09 for your 08, that should work since they're the same engine. You'll need to find one "complete" with the turbo as your old turbo is probably shot.( your Dad's other thread stated the engine was run out of oil causing it to seize. That would most likely have killed the turbo also ) |
This is a longshot but doesn't the Saturn sky redline '08 and up as well as the Cobalt SS '08 and up use the same engine? Might need to switch some things around but should work....right?

Your answering a question with a question.
Have your local salvage yard check they're Hollander book, the 2009 and 20010 2.0 will work so long as is LNF. If you read the link I posted , The LDK will work also. |
The Sky is not a transverse-mounted engine, and therefore has a different turbo. Here are pics of Powermizer's turbo that is on his LDK, going into his Sky.https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/atta...d-img_0195.jpg

But I still think the Sky is different. https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/2-0l...e8/#post808819 |

Upon FURTHER RESEARCH, lol. They may be the same. Here is another pic from Powermizer's thread, of a factory config(I think)?

Here is a link to the original thread about the seized motor of the OP.
