Question New Owner With a Few Questions

Hey all.

Just traded my 06 Cobalt SS/SC on a loaded 08 HHR LT with 24,000 miles. The SS was sweet, but it's nice to have something more practical... the payments and insurance are a lot cheaper too.

I'm a bit of a gearhead... so this one won't stay stock for long. I realise it will never be a 13 second ride, but the 2.4 is decently peppy... so I'll have a little fun. I've seen there are a few intake options... that will most likely be the first thing. Does anyone here have pics of them installed?

Second... is there any advantage to running premium in these things? Generally I've heard anything with a compression ratio greater than 10:1 needs 91 octane or better. I don't mind spending a few extra dollars to fill up if it will net me some acceleration or MPGs.

Finally... I've seen some aftermarket tail lights available, what about headlights? I had a black set in the Cobalt and would really like to put something similar on the HHR.

Thanks!

I can't speak to the tail lights or air cleaner questions but from my own experience, yes, there is an advantage to using premium gas in your 2.4 engine.I get better mileage and I think it's a bit peppier.

Race and street one of our Supporting vendors has some nice IPCW LED Taillights. A few of our members have them myself also.

If you are looking for performance, run premium. I cannot justify the $0.25/gallon increase in 93 octane vs 87 octane. I saw no mpg improvement when I used premium. I have been averaging 30.3 mpg for the past 53,000 miles in my 2.4L auto.

There as of yet are no aftermarket headlights for the HHR. There are special edition stock ones that may or may not have the orange turn lens in them and a slight tint in the cover. A number of people on the board have taken the stock ones apart and painted the non reflector parts of the lights and put them back together......

You could find them with the search feature.......
