My kids are 10 and 7, I listen to 20 and 30 so I know what's going on for them music wise. Granted, I'm only 35, but I still think there hasn't been a decient album put out since about 1992

I'll go as far as 1978 with a few caveats into the '80's with Pat Benitar, World Party and a few select others.

I did like that Seattle curve that got thrown out there in the early 90s... lots of interesting progressive things happening around that time that became mainstream.

Blind Mellon, Soundgarden, Chilli Peppers, I'm just waiting for the next great thing

Yeah, that was an interesting wave. New Wave tried to play pop in a minimalistic manner in the '80's as did the Seattle sound in the '90's. Heck even punk in the '70's was a lashout at overproduced pop/rock like the Eagles ( Whom I like a lot ).

Rock always seems to want to rebel, but in the last couple of decades it rebels against itself since it became an accepted music idiom. Give it respect and it will eat its young. That's what Rock seems to be about.

Rap parallels Rock in that sense as well. Many subdivisions at war with each other.

I'm not much into Rap though since I'm 46 and saw RAP come and replace Motown/Soul , which I liked. I'll take Parliament and the Isley's over NWA anyday

At least there are some soul stations on XM.
