Passing beams and hi beams

The flash to pass feature your talking about does momentarily ignite both hi and low filaments in the headlight. But as stated, that heats up fast and if you kept using it, the headlight bulb wouldn't last long.
Some cars do leave the low beam on with the hi beam (my Elantra does this). But it is a 4 light system.
