A phone/mp3 holder
A phone/mp3 holder
I wanted something to hold my iPod Touch 5g while driving. I found this one on Amazon made by Arkon and this is how it is set up in my ride.
It is actually a "vent mount" but I did not use the supplied vent clips and removed the lower stabilizing arm so that I could feed cable ties through the holes on the back of the base.
This is the base without the holder. I attached it by pulling out the "water fall" and securing the base with two 8" cable ties.
I added a 3rd cable tie at the top which is attached to the upper cable tie for added stability.

Right side view of the base only. Notice that there are no gaps caused by the cable ties.

Left side view with the holder mounted to the base.

Right side view with the holder mounted to the base.

Driver's point of view.

One word of caution if you decide to go use this method.
You can scuff the plastic on the "water fall" if you move the base around. It does have a tiny bit of play in it, but not enough that it should move around on it's own while using a phone/mp3 player when it's in the holder.
