Radar Detectors
Looking for a ground point, look at post 31 or this thread https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/show...t=power+source
If you grab the brown wire (thin, but enough current for a small acc like a radio and a radar) and just ground ther wire to the metal lower dash support next to the fuse panel on the passenger side of the lower console, it will work just fine.

Here is how I did it. Actually, my set up is a little involved. I never had any success with sucktion cups, ever. So, I attached my mount using the same bracket/glue used for a rear view mirror. When my Escort is not being used, I have another bracket on a Flash doll which I stick on the windshield mount. This way, it does not look so obvious that there is supposed to bhe a radar detector there (thieves look for any signal to break into your car).
Other details-the unit plugs into one of 3 power plugs I have located in the car. I like it better than having the long cord to the cigarette lighter. Also located there are a map light off an old Mercury Capri, and a mirror that lets me see my kids in the back seat, as well as being a great blind spot mirror.
The way I hooked up the power/ground-I ran a 10 gauge wire from the positive post under the hood (the same one as for the power steering) with a fuse, into the car and by the factory fuse box. There, I have a spade connector on one side, and 2 other spades coming off it in a Y. One side has a fuse, the other goes to another Y and so on for 5 accessories. This way, I can disconnect all of my add-ons with just one fuse under the hood. For grounding, I have another 10 gauge wire with a loop connector hooked up to the ground screw shown in this thread. On the other side of the wire is another crimp on loop. I have a long bolt with a wing nut, and all of my grounds get attached to that same bolt. Makes everything simple and neat.
I always wanted to get one, except for the price. And now that I see one in a vehicle, it sure is big. The reviews on it are great. I had a 10 year old Escort that I paid 160 for. A few months ago they had a sale where they gave me 80 credit if I sent in my old one for a new model. I couldnt resist (plus the old one would not find todays radar/lasar/etc).
