Remote Start Fails After 10 Seconds
Update: I disconnected the negative battery terminal and then unbolted the RED connector with the 7mm bolt to the BCM, Inspecting the pins I found no bent pins and/or corrosion, the RED connector looked the same clean and no issues I could see. I then took a Q-tip and cleaned all the pins and connector with alcohol and let air dry. While I was waiting I cleaned the 2 grounds in the engine, the easy ones I could get to, one below the oil filter and one next to the drivers side shock tower. Connected everything back together and started the car. Car started right up no issues, no CEL displayed and/or stored. Took it for a drive, came home shut it off got out locked doors and initiated remote start, car started but then shut off about 10 seconds later. Tried this several times, with the same result. Before I bite the bullet and take it to a Chevy Dealer, does anyone know and/or recommend a scan tool I can purchase that would aid me in troubleshooting this problem? Thanks Mark
If it will remote start, it is most likely not an electrical, bad connection issue, or hood ajar etc. The reason it shuts down after 10 seconds is because the car’s monitoring system has detected some abnormal readings such as coolant temp or oil pressure not building up. (Did you ever monitor the actual oil pressure ?)
Your owners manual lists some of these basic issues of remote start problems. Even a Google search for “Engine Shuts Down AFTER Remote Start” will give you some diagnostic clues.
And this 10 seconds til shutdown. Is it the exact same time every shutdown ? If so, then that ought to tell you it’s a computer monitor doing this.

Hi firemangeorge, I understand what you're saying I'll be looking into getting a a scanner or taking it somewhere to have the oil pressure checked but what is perplexing to me is that when tightening the BCM red connector the car remote starts working and then another day after tightening down the engine fuse box the remote starts to work continuously 10 times in a row then the next day it's back to the same behavior of starting and shutting off in approximately 10 seconds the only thing that's been constant is that the remote start will start and shut off in approximately 10 seconds it shuts off always about 10 seconds. As I stated before it does have periods where it just will start and continue to run so I will have the oil pressure checked but I would think that if the oil pressure was a problem and/or low it would never remote start and continue to run, that's what's confusing the most to me I'll provide an update once I get the oil pressure checked and we can go from there, also to add the car never overheats, I recently changed the thermostat (OEM GM) and Dexcool coolant, thanks for your help, Mark
I suggest that you loose all 4 bolts in the fuse box then retighten them past "afraid they will strip". And then push every fuse and relay down into their seats.
By OEM t-stat do you mean ACDelco 131-158. A GM dealer will sell you a different one unless you specify.

Don’t take this the wrong way but do you not understand how oil pressure works ? There is no oil pressure in an engine that is not running. Not sure why you think that the remote start wouldn’t start the car because of that.
Once you do start the car it takes 3-5 seconds for pressure to build up from zero. I’m guessing that the OBD system monitors oil pressure, coolant temp etc. for 10 seconds. If it’s not within the perimeters then the engine gets shut down.
I’m almost sure that there is no oil level monitor. Just oil pressure monitoring.
Oh yeah. Not saying the oil pressure is for sure your problem but I would at least check it. After all, it is on of the 1st things listed to trouble shoot.

Hi donbrew, yes you are correct I installed the OEM t-stat ACDelco 131-158, and I will go over again tightening the engine fuse box.
Hi firemangeorge, thanks for the clarification about the oil pressure, I understand it better now. Can anyone tell me what the oil pressure should be for a 2007 Chevy HHR LT 2.4 automatic? I have found (checking this site) some say 50-80psi at 1000RPM and others 30-70psi at 1000RPM at 194F.
Could somebody please tell me what the correct oil pressure should be for my car, thank you Mark
