RKE programming
I've been told only dealer or locksmith can program RKE fob ,but in you tube there's a million videos on how to do it yourself. I just bought this hhr but it didnt have the fob . so what is the truth?

It seems to me that most HHR FOB programming is the same except for the year 2008.
I am about to replace one for my wife's HHR and it is a 2008 2LT, the more I read the more confusing it becomes.
I don't like buying a programmer for one time use, but it depends on how much the dealership wants to do this. I bought 3 FOBs online with remote start but just need them programmed, and the key recall has been done. I do not need extra keys just FOB programming.

What do you think is different about 2008?
The only thing I know about is the RCDLR may lose it's programming if the battery is dead for an extended time, like on a car lot. In that case it needs a firmware update.
Some have RS disabled, but 2008 you can bypass the delete.

I still would have to buy the Dorman programmer to initalize the new FOBS, having said that if it fails to work, as it seems to do randomly for some, then it could start other problems with returns ect...
Just trying to decide if I want all the possible hassles and can quickly be fixed by the dealership unless they want an arm and legg and require two or more hours of my time.
The older I get the more valuable my time seems to be.....

I agree you are confused and scared and don'tr want to do it anyway.
Some dealers are reasonable. A good locksmith can do it. Some very well equipped shops can do it.
