RWD HHR in the works
Converting to rear wheel drive is an absolute must for me. It's much more important than the V8. I have always hated fwd in any car, I feel the auto manufacturers have crammed fwd down our throats for their financial gain, MUCH cheaper to build, MUCH more expensive to maintain. IMO there is no fwd car on the planet that is as fun to drive as a performance rwd car. You may flame me for my opinions but the best thing about the HHR is it's looks and body style.....fwd not so much. I don't think you can compare a Mustang or Corvette or Camaro driving experience with a fwd car. Now if you are talking fuel economy that's another subject. Altho my RWD Panel will be a daily driver, in reality it will be a streetrod that will be driven for fun things like cruising, car shows, ect. I will continue to drive my fwd HHR for transportation to work.
Yeah, i miss the rear wheel drive days myself.
Although, it does pretty good in the snow, it's still no all wheel drive.
I would like either the 4 wheel drive or all wheel drive where I live as well! Im a couple hrs from Canada! and we do get snow :) Usually naot as bad as you guys!
Awsome job. Can't wait till you start doing it for real on the daily HHR. Tons of fab work and measurments along with test fit after test fit. I'm doing stuff like that right now on my project for the dash and gauges. Hard work yet greatly satisfying.
It's Right-Side Up Again
Well I spent the day flipping the mule right side up and re-installing the rear axle. I need to get both rear wheel bolted on the hubs and take a bunch more measurements. Once that is done I will begin on the panhard bar. I pretty much have in my head the design I'm going to use for it. I don't have a lot of room but I'm sure I can get it in. The shots show how much real estate the tires take up.

Wheel Wells
Here is another shot of the inside wheel wells. This shows how really tight the tire is inside the car. I'll get the plasma cutter out next weekend and clearance everything. A few spots rub as of now. Also have most of the parts of the panhard bar in now so that gets fabed next weekend. As soon as that is all done and assuming that it fits, I will be very close to setting it on it's rear weels for the first time.

Now a 4 wheel drive HHR would also be cool :) When the car co. went to FWD like you said it was cheaper for them but they still jacked up the price of the cars lol
