I wish I had the talent, time, funds and the space to do somthing like this. But since I have none of the above I will sit on the sidelines and admire and follow your progress. Thanks for keeping us up todate on your progress.

Rear Axle Is In

Alot of things came together this weekend. The rear axle is in the correct spot, the coil-overs are finally in the correct position (this is the third try) the panhard bar is complete and the rear wheel wells now have been cut enough for the tires to turn. Several things will remain tack welded for the time being until I pull the complete rear end assembly out and then we will finish up the welding just prior to powder coating. The next step will be fitting the engine/trans assembly in. Of course that will take a ton of cutting and fitting.

did you try that sway link without the shocks installed? to see if corners or bumps may cause the bar to contact the housing top?..Looking good!!

It doesn't look like it here in the pics but there is plenty of clearance to the 3rd member.

LS1 Install

OK so I have the rear axle and suspension far enough along to set it on the wheels. Time to work on the other end. I got the plasma cutter out and cut a huge hole for the trans. In the process I discovered a doubled up "strong back" area that runs from the firewall down both sides of the stock "trans hump" area and along what I'll call the drive shaft hump down the center of the car. This is a big structural area and I will have to replace it with something of equal or greater strength. This is some thing I'll have to think about for a while. Just another "challenge". I'm really glad this is just a mule and not my car.

I learned another weird thing about the V8/RWD install today, I always figured that I would be shortening the Camaro drive shaft for this to work. Not the case, I will be using a longer drive shaft than the '01 Camaro has. These photos show the motor just sitting at the aprox. location. Much more measuring will be required before it's final.
