Cutting Begins
Broke out the plasma cutter and got serious today. I'm really glad this isn't a real car. I think I would be a little nervous doing this to a driver. Anyway, I cut out the spare tire well and forward to the cross member. The Camaro rear end is sitting in place on the upper spring mounts for now. The trailing arms are mocked up out of 1" emt. The 2x4s will be replaced by 2x3" wood and I will continue to "build" the rear chassis supports out of them. Once I'm satisfied with the layout in wood, I'll build it out of 2x3 rectangular tubing.
The rear axle will be narrowed quite a bit...at least 12". Lots more work will be required before I know the amount. Depends on how much rubber I can get inside the wheel wells. I haven't determined how wide my rear tires will be. I'd like to go with a 10" wide rear tire but it depends on how much work tubbing the wheel wells will be. As far as a gas tank goes, I'm going with a rectangular fuel cell mounted where the spare tire went.
