Speeding Ticket
Sad to hear about the ticket.

about 10 years ago on Interstate 81 in Virginia I had a motorcycle split between my car and a Semi at speed. I did not see it comng and it startled the crap out of me. These idiots don't realize that they could cause someone to jerk the wheel and get them or crash into some other inocent party. I hope they jacked up the jail and threw him under it.

Yeah, lane splitting at speed is a bit more than nuts.
Especially when they are coming from the opposite direction: I think it was in Wyoming years back I had a car pull out and pass a semi - I was heading towards them on a bike - the car didn't pull back and went by about 6" away from me - me I was already on the last few inches of pavement inches from the gravel. Was too mad to turn around and have a few words with the woman - I did not want to go to jail. The closing speed must have been at least 100+ mph!!
I know it's legal in some areas, but lane splitting even at slow speeds is just not my cup of tea at all. Ya try that up here and you WILL get cut off for sure - just too many nuts out there.
It may not be safe for me to have an SS.

Think the panel will get you a ticket, try a SS. I managed to get one for 71 in a 35 and I hadn't gone a block yet...I hate to be late for an appointment. Got dismissed in court, get a Lawyer they always make mistakes on speeding tickets. If it didn't mess with your insurance, I'd just pay it. My attorney will give your money back if He can't beat it.
I see HHR SS's for sale on the internet but I have never seen one for sale here locally or within a 30 mile radius. I see lots of HHR's on the road. An SS Panel cost about twice as much as a regular HHR.
When I was in the market for an HHR I didn't research the car fully. I didn't know the SS was a real SS. Back in the '90s they made SS models that were in name only. I didn't know the difference and didn't do the research. I regret it now as I would have bought an SS, especially a Panel SS and maybe I will still be able to get one.
At age 71 with certain health problems I just don't know.

Back in the Saddle...after paying a $100 fine (no points)Speed traps:
We had one small rural village here in Michigan years ago that was a speed trap.
They finally got busted. They were handing out $100,000+ in tickets per year. The lone cop was getting paid more than 2 cops elsewhere. So were the town officials. That was when speeding tickets were $15-20. I don't remember all the details but they had to cease and desist.

Sorry to hear about your "Involuntary Contribution to The Highway Fund" Boydie.
These trucklets do like to roll, I've found that they have a happy spot right around 80-85 mph.
As far as speed traps go, we done invented them here in the Southland, I can think of at least 50 around Charlotte.

Talking about sppe traps, one of the worst was just south of Roanoke, Boones Mill on US-220 The one cop has had a GTO a Firebird and a Camero, He just lost his job. Looks like no more income. At one time back in the early 60's it was rated as one of the top 10 in the nation. Yeaes ago I got in the habbit that if the speed limit was 40 I did 35. And I still do to this day
Today I finished my "Defensive Driving Class" penance for driving with my Cruise control set at 36 in a 35 ($35, 8 hours looking at the computer and a trip to the library for the final exam = 5 + points).
Turns out that when I last looked at the speedo I was at the top of a hill with a banked curve that accelerated the car to 52MPH. Guess who was sitting at the bottom of the hill? I have gone down very steep hills with the CC set at 75MPH and didn't go over 79MPH. This is real, not even trying to pretend, I really thought I was going under 40MPH.
On my way home from the "libary" a deputy was rolling so fast down the center of a 2 lane road that nobody had time to pull over out of his way. I almost got into a head-on before I realized it.
