Learn about The ECU block learn and you will get a better understanding about why MPG can get higher or lower on how it is driven . A little hint, Easy is not always better!

True!!! Very True! Finding that sweet spot is the key

Flatspots? Actually you do have a point...almost all tires flatspot...sometimes after just sitting overnight depending on the tire. My car's original home was in CT before it migrated north to "Live Free or Die" land so it wasn't just sitting....well at least for that trip

First tank the DIC said 30.0....357 miles and 12.490 gallons later comes to 28.58 mpg so the DIC is a little ambitious. Not bad for the first fillup. I am counting on it to go a few mpg higher once the engine gets some more miles on it

Thumbs up Great highway milage - average city

Just completed a road trip from a Chicago Suburb to Philly via interstates.
My 06 HHR had a little less than 5,000 miles on it at the start.
My first leg was to Youngstown Ohio. My DIC was reset at time of fill up at the start of the trip. DIC stated in Youngstown average speed was 67 mph and miles per gallon 31.5 - trip was 426 miles DIC stated I could go another 70 miles and after filling up with gas, the calculation verified the DIC at 31.5 mpg. On Interstate 80, I was running average at 72 with some speed to 90.
This was not a straight through trip, we stopped about every 100 to 150 miles.

2nd leg was to Philly Suburb - after arriving, we traveled locally for about 80 miles then filled up prior to returning to Chicago - MPG calculated to 28.7 - very close to the DIC. Reset the DIC.

On the return - traveled from Philly to Toledo (500 miles) (stopped for gas prior to Toledo) attained speeds up to 95 MPH in several areas - average again was 30.4 MPG.

Final fill up was on the west side of Indiana (most Illinois drivers will fill up in Indiana prior to entering Illinois as gas is at least 10 to 15 cents less). Arrived home and the DIC stated 28.5 MPG for the entire return trip.

Locally, prior to the trip, I was averaging 19.5 mpg both by the DIC as well as my calaculations.

Since my return on May 4th, I have not filled up the HHR, have done about 200 miles of local driving and the DIC is still in the mid 20's mpg.

After driving land yachts over the past 30 years, I am very satisfied.

I switched to straight synthetic oil in The Deer Slayer. Took a trip on Mothers day after filling with Premium. Drove from Superior WI to Eau Clare and up to Duluth, then 2 days home to work. When I went to fill up the DIC showed 470 miles, after filling with premium again the dic said I could go 490 miles. Calculating the miles gallons gave me 31.8 mpg. This is the second time I have got these miles after calculating and not with the DIC, the DIC said 31.7mpg..

New HHR too!

I bought my HHR Easter Saturday, it is a 1LT with the 2.2 engine. On the way home from the dealer (had 11 miles on it) I was getting 26+ mpg. It now has 1500 miles on it, drove it 300 freeway miles yesterday, got 28.2 going 75mph down the freeway. Driving back and forth to work, 16 miles each way, half city, half hwy, I'm getting 28.8 mpg and rising as the engine breaks in.

Nope It was right, the trip meter showed the 470. now to get the temp working right... it reads 3 degrees high. but that could be good on a -27 F degree morning.
