Well, a Little better today... took on a day trip, about 3 - 3 1/2 hours one way... got about 28 - 29 MPG... better than the 22 - 24 going from KC to Texas.. So hopefully the next time will even be better. Also went to a cookout Friday night (about a 45 min - an hour drive... averaged about 29- 30 MPG per the DIC.

HHR Will be going in for an oil change this week @ the dealer (it's a free one)

Oh, Just wondering, for those who have found the sweet spot... what are most of you finding works the best?

Thanks for the info

There is/was another thread about gas mileage. I got Purple Haze dec 28th, with the odometer at 9 miles. My first trip onto the highway was early april, and we got about 28.5 mpg. I took another trip a couple of weeks ago, and we got 33.5 mpg. I drive on the highway averaging about 72 mph. Around town, I'm averaging about 27.5 mpg. Almost ready to go over 4000 miles on her.

Is that according to your DIC or did you do the math? I have found the computer to be about 2 mpg higher than actual so far

We took our first cruise sat, 125 mi,(80 mi on the odometer) all expressway. averging 65 to 70 mph.
The DIC got as high as 33.
I will be checking actual after a few more miles.

I've found the DIC to actually read a bit low, but so little as to be moot. Remember to check many tanks, and average them, and not just one. Every station and every nozzle stops at slightly different points, and some people pump-in a few clicks more gas in to get an even number, skewing that fill-up's reading.

So, reset your DIC at your next re-fill, and don't reset it for the next 4-5 tank fulls, checking each one, then average them all out, and compare to the DIC. I'm impressed by the accuracy of the DIC, to say the least!

Our HHR is now over 8,000 clicks, and the mileage is improving, still. we're now near 29 mpg(US) combined, and we get over 35 on the highway(at 60-65 mph; all local limits are 55....<sigh>) There's a definite break-in period with these cars, and the mileage responds well to slowing down. I suspect at a steady 55 on near-level roads, we'd be at 37-38 mpg....

Our's is a 2.4 with the 5 spd.

Hmmmm...I reset the DIC every fillup...should I not? I thought that would be more in line in figuring out my mpg per tank?

It depends on what you want to measure. Leaving for a while gets you a better and better average over varying driving conditions. That will give you the best idea of how, overall, your HHR is doing on average mpg.

I typically reset mine every few months. I left it all winter to get my average for winter driving. Now I'll leave it all summer and compare that to last summer. I would expect consumption to average higher last year since a car's mpg tends to improve over the first few months/miles as the engine "breaks in" so to speak.
