Tie rods replacement

Ive watched a few U-tubz videos on doing inner tie rods but none were HHR specific. They showed a tool which looks like a U-clamp that you use and extension to loosen and tighten but not extremely tight and seemed to loosen fairly easy with a standard 3/8 drove rachet.... My question is, can the HHRs inner tierod be loosened with a pair of channel locks ? is there enough room to work or will I need a special tool to do them? Shop wants over $500 to do both sides for $75 in parts for about 45 minutes of labor

I used the tool, much easier to access then locking pliers or channel locks. Not a lot of room in there.

Ok, I can rent the tool. My issue is getting under it here at home. I need a jack to get it up on stands, the little 2 ton junk collasped and twisted last time it was used to change a tire. Sold all my automotive stuff after spinal surgery years ago ( should kick myself ) I may go to my buddy and let him do it since he has a lift in his shop but hes been busy building bikes, But until then Ill hit some salvage yards, who knows what Ill find ( want a rear wing, need an air dam since I ripped mine off in the driveway getting onto the road... and who knows whats out there that someone customized ) Washed mine the other day in the 60s and today its freaking snowing !

I’ve used a HF aluminium jack for years, best $75.00 I spent back in 2010.

I have 1 1/2 ton , I suggest a bigger 2 ton version for your street rod pickup.

Ill be going with the 3 ton, I really liked my 3 ton Craftsman I sold back in 2009.... I need the heavier duty jack since I mainly get big lifted trucks so the added weight with massive tires its just the right thing to do LOL
