Yes it is the 2.4.
It is ridiculous to have such finicky solenoids that get fouled or whatever so easily.
I'm fairly certain my smoke issue is not the value seals. It doesn't smoke at start up or during extreme turns, like a Subaru I had years ago. This only does it after idling for 3 or so minutes or longer then it's a big poof as I accelerate that only lasts a second or two.
In researching it I ran across an Acura forum where a guy was having the same issue.
After trying pretty much everything he removed the intake and did a thorough cleaning of the interior of the intake and pcv system and it smoked no more. Something about sludge getting built up inside a pcv screen or plate that's part of the intake while idling then when you accelerate it gets sucked into the cylinders and creates this quick smoke show.
I can find the link if anyone is interested.
So I'm thinking its the pcv plate in the intake that is the culprit. I ordered all the gaskets today and am opening it up for the first time in 248,000 miles on Saturday.
I'll take some pics and do a DIY how to if it solves my issue.
Didn't mean to high jack... I'll try to start my own thread on this after this weekend.
There isn’t a PVC in the 2.4 Ecotec. Is the oil getting sucked out the hose from the valve cover to the elbow just before the throttle body? This is about that issue
I've checked the hose from the intake to TB elbow and though there are traces of oil in it, it is not the problem, I tried a 3 ft hose double coiled and when that changed nothing I pulled the hose off completely and let it idle and it did the same thing.
I work at a dealership and had one of the Chevy guys bring up the intake diagram and there is a small oval gasket that comes with it that is listed as some type of intake vent gasket. I looked up the intake gasket set for it on rock auto and it shows coming with a plate of some sort. I haven't removed it yet but there are tsb for other ecotec engines that outline a cleaning of the pcv system inside the intake.
It may be called something different but I believe it performs a similar function.
I'll gather some more info and share why I think this may remedy my problem...
I'm not standing strong behind my ideas here or saying anyone else is wrong... I'm just hoping I can avoid pulling the head or a rebuild.
Oh and yes I only use mobile 1 530 full synthetic and change it at the 15% mark, occasionally its hit 0, but not normally. Also I've never put any additives in it, no stop leak, block flush or any other crap like that. I have seafoamed it maybe 4 or 5 times over the last 10 years, but that's it.
As far as I know, there are 4 round rubber gaskets that compose the "intake manifold gasket". I don't know what those small ones are, I didn't see anything like that when I had mine off.
All of those rubber gaskets are reuseable if not damaged.
BTW; there is a tricky bit to removing the manifold; One or two of the lower studs need to come out with the nuts or you don't have room to get the manifold out.
Thanks for the tip.
Side note:
This site has always been the best auto site I've ever membered.
So much knowledge and willingness to help others... Thank you all!
I was trying to recall the intake manifold and any correlation to a vent hole in the head to vent the crank case, I remember four intake ports and one oval in the middle but don’t remember any thru ports
