How's the cross-bar project going? I'm in need of some ideas to carry my surf boards as well since it starting to warm-up around here. I looked at the Thule and Yakima racks, seems like a lot of money to spend if I already have the factory rails. Let me know how that works for you.

 

They think it coming from the roof, so they have the interior torn apart. Hope it goes together right. Hope they find it.

 

It's taking a while, because i'm doing it at a freinds shop and hard to get time to get their. We have one end almost done. We need to test fit for alignment of other side L-bracket and slot for strap then tig weld bracket. Once that is set, making another one won't take long. When all done they will be polised and anodized clear. If I can figure how to post picture I will past them.

 

so was it from the roof rails? Looking forward to pics!

 

Anyone have any more details on the firewall grommet location. Maybe some pics or so. I know my leak is from the firewall area, and not the door or pillar. But if there are some pics or so, I can direct the dealer when I send it in. For sure, I do not what them fartin around with the HVAC box or so, as I have not driven it the past few day.

Anyway, sorry for the double post, I previously started a new thread and then ran into this one.

 

I had a Mazda 626 that had a bad water leak in the trunk that was difficult to find - I could not recreate the problem with a garden hose etc.. I finally removed the carpeting from most of the trunk, and dusted the inside of various areas of the trunk with baby powder. After driving in the rain for a while I checked the areas coated with the baby powder and found the telltale signs of the water leak in the disturbed baby powder.

In that case it turned out to be coming in through the lock in the trunk.

You don't need much baby power - just a light dusting will do - and it cleans up easy afterwards.
