843de,

Is the shifter cable less expensive than the shifter? Or is it just a wash because of shop labor rates? Hope tomorrow brings you a better day :)

The new cable was billed to me at $45.90 with $55 in labor to install it, so I didn't think it was too bad at all.

A new shifter assembly lists at $189.50 + labor, so I was glad that it turned out to be the cable.

AAA hauled the critter for free, and the dealer dropped it off at the office, so it wasn't a bad day at all.

Even with the best maintenance, these odd failures happen, and there's no telling how many cycles the cable had been through before it went "boing".

Keep up the good work on the Buick conversion, quite a project you've got going on.

Sunday night I survived an almost fatal car crash. I was southbound on 71 and the rear end of my car broke loose (70mph) was raining pretty bad. I was in the far left passing lane, spun clockwise across 2 more lanes and missed the guard rail beggining post by literally a foot. Then slid 175ft. down an embankment where the HHR was so far off tthe road and down a hill that the highway patrol passed me 5 times because they couldnt see my vehicle. Okay its 10pm I have HIDs and my flashers on, it was that bad.. The tow truck had to pull me while I steered because his winch was short by 50 feet. Im thankfull to God that nothing happened, no damage, im safe. Traffic was pretty bad I spun at the exact right point in time and missed 4-5 cars while spinning. The officer said if I would have struck the guardrail at 70mph and the clockwise spin, my car would have rolled multiple times and I would have nothing less than a rush ride to the er in an ambulance and a totalled HHR.. It was bad enough I called off work the next day. Im ex Army, I dont call of unless im extremely sick. So $10 in quarters later the HHR is back to being clean and nice. I replaced the tires all the way around with 215/55r/16 Goodyear Eagle GT's. I feel alot safer now.. Thats what the wife has on her Sentra going on 3 years now. Plus they have some pretty mean looking tread lol.

843de,
Unforeseen repairs are a drag....thankfully yours turned out to be the le$$er of two evils :)

Teknolla,
Thanks for the compliment!!! Still a loooooong way to go though.

hhryoungin,
It goes without saying that the most important thing is that you are alive and well! Thank God is right! The fact that your HHR survived unscathed is quite remarkable as well! Don't know you at all, but thankful you and your ride escaped free from harm nonetheless!

Cripes hhryoungin, that's the worst way to find out these critters get "tail happy" when its slippery, you had an Angel on your shoulder. I think that's what the cycle guys would call a "tank slapper", really glad both you and your HHR came through unscathed.

And if I haven't said it before, thank you for your service.

Actually the worst part about yesterday was bumming a ride to work Benjiwah, short of finding a rod hanging through the block, unexpected repairs are just a part of life.

benjiwah/843de--thank you both very much! and your welcome 843de! i wish i had my gopro going at the time.. that would have been a hell of a video. i couldnt believe it either that we made it out perfect! the officer asked me" so what are you going to do now?" i replied " well new tires, wash it, and start attending sunday Church again!" he chuckled, i said " im dead serious because thats what almost happened, Seriously Dead" I know He was riding shotgun with me, because luck isnt that strong of a word.. but Faith, Faith is the strongest of them all! its been a really good reality check for me, while i was waiting for the police and the tow truck (1:45 mins) i set my priorites in order. The best part of all of it? Holding my 11 mo old daughter again, i broke down when she saw me and put her arms out saying "dad dad dad dad" my kill count will never raise again, and i wear my seatbelt every time now.
