After a week of looking I found a truck to replace the Sonoma I sold a week and a half ago so I took the HHR to close the deal and talk to my buddy to get the lower front bumper valance and ding pulled in the passenger fender. They make a great matching pair,, just by luck!

Now I will be able to get back hunting with the truck since I can get of the road to park now in this 7" slush that froze the night it fell with the sub 0 weather we have had since! The "new to me" Ranger will make a good mate fer the 2LT till spring, but the last day in the corrosive chot for Li'l Blackie!

Alright, let's try this again.
I have an 07 LS with 278K. It seems the transmission misses a downshift occasionally, had a mechanic troubleshoit it and claimed it was the TCM. That didn't fix the problem, he said the ECM needed to be replaced as well! Three weeks later, it started doing it again. Asked a service coordinator at a local dealership about it, he said, and I quote "You will just have to put up with it". I can't imagine I'm the only one with this problem, but stranger things have happened. All in all, I still love this car, truck, or whatever the HHR really is.
One other question, would going to a 10/30 or 10/40 oil lessen the oil consumption? And more importantly, will it do any harm? Any ideas would be appreciated.

I quit putting heavier than recommended oil in a engine years ago and have been well pleased doing it. I had a lubrication engineer explain it to me this way.

The oil system is like the blood system on a human, the older it gets the years of pumping oil in the engines or blood though the human closes and builds up impurities in the passages, thicker blood cause the same result as thicker oil,,, and that aint good.

The haman results in strokes and heart attacks,, and the engine raises pressure but has less flow doing the same thing resulting in premature failure,, makes sense, and like I say I have had better results since I quit trying to restrict the engine of the lubrication it needs more of as it gets older!

Not a tranny man, but have seen a problem close to this on a friends Duramax. It was intermittent and unplugging the main electric connection and cleaning it well with brake cleaner cleared it up. But his plug showed signs of fluid contamination when he unplugged it. Good luck.

On the highway doing 65 up hill (most of the time) Trans drops a gear ("passing gear") and when it goes for one more downshift, it "misses" the gear. RPM goes way up and when I back off, at about 2200 RPM I can feel the transmission go (slips) into gear, and all is OK. Sometimes two or three times in a days commute (110 miles round trip), sometimes not at all in a week. Other than that, it runs great.

I'm hoping to really belong here, rather than just reading as many posts as I can.

I put down a deposit on a 2008 HHR LT2 automatic that has 93k.
