autoforum, I know ...
but this aunt just surprised me unpleasantly.
A certain Victoria Nuland, speaking about Russia and Ukrain, for some reason mentioned my hometown of Yekaterinburg City. She did it very awkwardly. For example, she believes that Yekaterinburg and Sverdlovsk are two different cities existing at the same time. But Yekaterinburg is Sverdlovsk! The former name of the same city!
Apparently, she also considers Ukraine a city, not a country.
It is upsetting that Nuland cites Yekaterinburg as an example of a wretched city in which one does not want to live. Alternatively, Paris and Berlin are suggested. I have not been to Berlin, but Paris made a terrible impression on me. Under no circumstances would I change my city to Paris. I have also been to Kiev. I can say - this is a magnificent city, but Yekaterinburg is no less beautiful, And more modern.
Of course, Nuland did not visit Yekaterinburg (who will let her come here!). Therefore, she does not know that this is a modern, largest city in Russia, has the status of the third capital of the country. Cultural and industrial center, with skyscrapers, theaters, palaces, the residence of the patriarch, metro, film studio, and much more.
I googled who Nuland is - it turned out that this is a whole deputy secretary of state, works in the White House and is engaged in foreign policy, in addition, she is considered a great specialist on Russia. That is, this person must be an expert in geography, economics, and political structure. I specifically found and listened to a speech on YouTube - everything consists of about the same nonsense. Of course, I myself translated and could have misunderstood a lot, but ...
Why am I writing this? Of course, what American aunts from American TVsets say should not concern me. But suddenly some of you were listening to this speech too. Your heard the familiar name and exclaimed: "Wow! Why, our Geg lives in Yekaterinburg!" I would not want you guys to think that I live in some wretched and dull environment. Everything is great with me, I am civilized, clean and safe city. And our policemen are not afraid to come to any district, which cannot be said about Paris.

There may be some misunderstandings. I think perhaps she was referring to the city of Yekaterinburg, located within the administrative center known as Sverdlovsk Oblast. Could you direct me to the places in this rather long session to which you refer?
I found some truth in her comments at 38:55 through 40:31, that should be applied not just to Russia but the U.S. as well, which she may assume is understood, but if not, she would be seen as hypocritical.
If the idiots running the world continue this sort of stuff, maybe I should sell my HHR's and get an old Diesel that won't be disabled by a nuclear EMP.
But I'd really rather keep them. They're almost as much fun to talk about as to drive.

With pleasure
For example, a view of the "Temple on Blood". The second residence of the Patriarch of the Russian Pravoslavnaya (Orthodox) Church.
City Hall (an architectural monument in the "Stalinist Empire" style)
History Center. Dam. A metallurgical plant was built on this site, giving rise to the entire city.
This is a monument to the founders of the city:
1. Vasily Nikitich Tatishchev, Russian statesman and military leader, ethnologist, geographer, historian, creator of the first multivolume generalizing work on Russian history.
2. Georg Wilhelm de Hennin - Russian military engineer of German (according to some sources - Dutch) origin, friend and colleague of Peter the Great, specialist in mining and metallurgical production.
Interestingly, de Genin did not like Tatishchev, wrote: "I can't stand the sight of his face." But the descendants honor both of them.
This is one of the sports arenas - the Sports Palace. Residence of the Uralochka basketball team.
Manor of merchants Kharitonov-Rastorguev. Monument of classicism by the famous Mikhail Malakhov, 1815 year
And this is a monument of constructivism - the White Tower. Yekaterinburg is a mecca for admirers of constructivism all over Europe, and possibly the whole world. In childhood, I crawled all her insides.
Yekaterinburg TV tower. Now it is gone, it was blown up in front of my eyes about five years ago. A permanent gathering place for parachute jumpers. In high school, I almost died climbing up her insides to the very top. I was just drunk ...
View of the Iset River embankment.
And this is my home area. View of the Cosmonauts Avenue. The famous Uralmash plant is nearby. A whole city within a city.
Something that will warm your souls. US Consulate in Yekaterinburg. As far as I know, the United States has three consulates in the largest cities in Russia. This is one of them.
Well then. Thanks for the opportunity to show off. I can tell you that Yekaterinburg is not only beautiful, but also hospitable. This is not a tourist center, but I assure you that here you will see unpainted Russia. Russia is primordial, honest, such as it is in reality.
If someone comes to visit - write to me. I will arrange for you a couple of unforgettable days with a Russian bath, vodka, snow and everything else.
