Greg has two currently, one has been there for about 4 years the other about 2. The second one was on my commute home on the highway and there is a left turn that merges from three to two lanes and there was a dump truck that kicked up a rock and I kid you not I saw it hit and chip the windshield. Kinda scary but hasn't grown so I am not worried.

Most insurance companies waive the deductible for chip repairs. If there is a crack smaller than a dollar bill they can usually repair it.

State Farm will not pay for rock chips, so I switched companies. 2 have been repaired, but alas the sand blast damage that occurs every winter is worse on a sunny day.

Every car I've ever owned has gotten a stone without the first month I've owned it, except the HHR. I've had it several years and the glass is still perfect. Instead, I had a tree limb go through the sidewall of a tire in the first month.

Don't get close to the sand haulers on the LIE and you stand a better chance with your glass.

Must be your policy, been a State Farm member for 20 years and they have always covered glass, even chips.

In 25 years driving Ford Sierra, Ford Fiesta and Mitsubishi Colt, I never had visible rock chips, let alone having to replace a windshield. Maybe I was lucky.

In 3 years driving my HHR (same to similar road conditions as before), I have caught at least three clearly visible rock chips and had to replace the windshield.

Maybe bad luck, maybe windshield angle, maybe airflow, maybe windshield rigidity?

I got one chip that Safelite repaired and than got another. Safelite said as long as the chip is not in line of sight they can repair before replacing windshield. This has been within two years.

I have had two in the 10 years I have had the HHR. Both were chips that were repairable, which never gets close to what my deductible is.
