First, what are the codes?

There is no expiration time or mileage on the engine. One member here cracked 300K on his 06 before he traded it in. Still ran great. I've seen one other crack 400K and still running great.

When I rsearched getting my HHR, I found that all years of HHRs are reliable, but the 2006 one is a bit less reliable (it's the first year after all)
The 06 is no less reliable mechanically wise than any other year. Few issues were unique to the 06, but none were bad.

WHy do they keep say the engine only has 1 year left? What are they basing that on?

We purchased our 06 new in November of 05 and sold it March of this year with 72000 miles. In the time we owned it we replaced the front rotors ourselves, the butyl patch, shifter, and catalytic converter (all free -under warranty), and the tires which you'd likely have to do on any vechile by the mileage. I'd call that pretty reliable.

Park it.

We don't have any idiotic inspections in Michigan.

Park it, customize it and make a hot rod out of it. HHRs will always be a collector car. You can replace engine, trans, etc.

I agree with the guys about the SS. Get one, I wish I would have spent the extra dough. Every year it will get harder to find a good one.

Ashaw, sounds like your dealer wants you to buy a new car. There are thousands of 06 HHRs on the road, running great with much more than 170k miles on them. I would find a new dealer, pronto. If he will lie to you about that he will lie to you about anything. Good luck with whatever decision you come up with.

We decide to work on the car. The codes we are getting are P0303 P2101 P1516
I change the spark plugs at 140k. I replaced the coil pack about 5 months ago all lights went out. Now they are back on again. I did not take the car to a dealer. I have a mechanic that I trust but now wondering. Hopefully I can start working on it in two weeks. Had to put into storage because here in PA you will be ticketed if the car is parked on the street. Since we do not have a driveway it went into storage. Thanks everyone I really do not want to give it up. Are the cars I have owned I will easy put 250k miles on it.

I agree with Premiere07 $ 3,000. now is a lot cheaper than a long car note. Heck another engine can be had pretty cheap. Someone on the forum classifieds had two engines for a couple of hundred each.

I watched a few episodes of a show on Netflix, about Meter maids, impound lots, and tow truck drivers that were in Phil. PA

Guess they were not kidding!!!

They can even ticket your car in the driveway.
