Check this Thread Out and there are a number of others that come up when you do a search. https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/show...t=Miles+Gallon

One question have you reset the Miles per Gallon DIC. It explains how to do it in the owners manual.

My wife drives the HHR and in the city we get about 23 MPG, a lot of stop and go traffic 15 miles round trip. I got 32 on the Highway driving to Ohio by myself. Loaded down for vacation with a roof basket around 28.5.

I'm getting between 25-26mpg on my 2.2L 5 spd doing city driving..and I do romp on it from time to time. The couple times I've taken it on the highway I'm getting almost 30mpg...but my boyfriend was driving around 80mph against the wind, which would bring it down some. When I drove it to the mountains to Estes Park if got 29.5 mpg, which I thought was pretty impressive. We'll see how all that changes with new CGS on there...could go down some...only because I'm really putting my foot into it now.

We're getting upper 20s on the highway.. Of course, we have the A/C going full blast because it is so hot here. The hot air itself makes the car run less efficient too. I fully expect to get well over 30 once it cools and the A/C goes off in a couple of months. We're getting around 23 in town. 2.2 with an automatic.

maybe its the 2.4 thats getting lower mileage as i see most everyone has the 2.2, but also it is 90+ everyday here in atlanta so maybe that is it, and i do use the auto start every day before leaving my job....

I have the 2.4L Auto in Charlotte, but we don't use the remote start, wastes gas. Did you reset the MPG calculator and average speed back to zero.

no , i figured that was like the truest stats you could compose all the way around form the beginnng of your vehicles use. i i reset it wouldnt tell me what the total avg is, and thats what i was hoping for was to be at least 23 mpg for the early life of my little HHR,lol.

You are correct, but the people telling you that they are getting over 30MPG on the highway have reset it for that trip and tank of gas. I only reset mine for the long trips to check highway mileage. I think a lot of people reset it with each tank of gas.

I think you hit it though. I've got the 2.4, but I'm sure this is the same with the 2.2, and when I use the remote start the DIC is counting that time against your mpg's.

When ya ain't movin' ya ain't goin nowhere's!

I usually just reset with each fill-up. I feel that this way gives me a good feel of how my car is running and how I'm driving.

Especially now that I have the intake, I have to watch how aggressive I drive. A few remote starts, some chirpping of the tires and ....PRESTO....crappy mpg's!!

Hope this helps.
