GM Recalling 2006-2008 HHR's
Dropped by my dealer this morning to talk to my service rep. I figured we'd make an appointment for next week. She wanted to take it right back and do it, saying that they had the parts in stock -- they had already had several in for the recall. I couldn't wait around today, so made an appointment for next Tuesday.
Had mine done today. Brought the HHR in for oil change (yeah, I got suckered into the 1 year plan, so what) and they did it without any appointment. When I got it back there miniscule creases in the headliner right on the A-pillar, but not enough for me to care. I'll try and get a couple of pictures the next day or so.
I got my letter, stopped by the dealer and he had to read the recall to see what it was about, then said no problem so I made an appointment to have it done. My wife brought it back two days later, drop the car off at 8 AM, get a ride to work (actually the front gate of the Navy base because the dealer can't get on the base), pick the car up at 5PM (when we called at 3 it wasn't ready yet...) when they told us to make an appointment for when the parts come in. They opened the car up to see what they needed then decided to order parts, and made the comment that they should order a few spares since a "few other people" have called about the same recall. All day to find out they don't have the parts on the shelf!!!
I went and got recall done today
It took them about 15 minutes once they took her back. They didnt have the parts in the shop, but got them from warehouse in about 30 minutes. so total time was about 45 minutes.
There was one place where they forgot to tuck the headliner back under the rubber , about an inch, I fixed that myself and you cant really tell anything was done other than that.
My service dept did a good job.

The first part of your statement is probably true. The Hawaii dealers were to lazy to order the parts when they were notified, electronically, of the up coming recall.
The second part is not true. I know as a personal fact the supplier who manufacturers the part for GM produced 500,000 pieces initially. Think about it....2 to a car makes 250,000 vehicles. Just about Chevrolets total production of HHR's. I think your dealer is BSing....which generally is common.
Dropped mine off last Monday to have that done and repaint the sandblasting issue. Called this morning and it finally made it to the paint booth. A solid week and still aint done! I miss my car!
