I just went out and checked since I have the headliner out for paint work. I have one piece in each front corner, I don't see where anything was added. There is no additional piece on top of the original. Is there a possibility of getting a copy of the instruction for this? I think my dealer opened it up and thought it already had a piece in there so they buttoned it up and returned it to me that way. That's after they had the car one day to tell me they needed to order parts, then another day to do the job. needless to say I'm not real happy about this right now, but before I complain to the dealer I'd like to get more information.

Here is a picture. They are hot glued together. They are the same color and and the new one fits on top of the old one, so you may not be able to detect the new piece at first glance. The new pad should have a 2008 date stamp.

For lack of a better word, I will just say that the new ones have longer nipples.

I just talked to the service department that did my HHR and the tech said the recall is to remove the old piece and replace it with the new. I showed him how the instruction picture shows the new piece being glued on top of the old one. They said they are going to have to call GM and find out who's right, so my car may have to go in for a third time to have this done right. I have the new piece on my headliner, they threw out the original piece.

Since the service department is now closed, I guess it will be next week before they figure out what to do.....

I don't know that it is absolutely necessary to have the original also in there. The instructions are vague but I would see no other reason to follow this instruction "Apply hot glue to the energy absorbing (EA) plastic piece pocket areas" but then the next instruction states "Insert the energy absorbing (EA) plastic piece to the headliner trim with hot glue". How can you hot glue it to the headliner if you put glue in the pockets and installed over the original piece? I believe you will be fine without, but thats just my opinion and I am not a GM engineer.
