It seemed to improve the mileage slightly, but I haven't done an actual freeway cruise under controlled conditions to confirm. Just so there is no misunderstanding, with the big intercooler (and maybe even the stock IC) the minor mods I made do not drop the IAT2 temperature measurably at full boost, only at part throttle and off throttle coasting (downhill) where there was big change (10 deg or better) for those conditions.

Please post what product you choose to do use. I know the local Home Depot's and Lowe's have some products. Road King or something. Were you able to use their own self-adhesive or add 3M glue.

I used the ACE hardware "Self-Adhesive Insulating Pipe Wrap" it comes in different widths, and I used the 2" wide X 1/8" thick. I also went along each seam with a small bead of RTV. 3M makes excellent materials of course so you might be able to get better R values with a different product, but there is limited space between the cam cover and air box, and if you raise the box too much (to retain the air-gap), you will contact the underside of the hood, so you really can't go thicker.

Hmm;;; have similar materials we use on the ac systems on aircraft..not so thick either...have to run some experiments..its nice to have access to a thermal gun!
Thx for the info....been waiting for someone to do this for the results...

If you have the Aeroforce guage or equivalent, do some controlled tests first to monitor IAT(pre-IC affected by airbox insulation) and IAT2 (post IC, affected by cold air ducting to intake manifold area), outside temp, steady cruise at 60 (for example) with everything up to normal temp. I was pretty surprised at how much difference it made (ducting and insulation combined).

Thanks for posting the extra info, myself and others appreciate the effort. Again, great mod.
