The Brake Fix Is In
Thanks to ChevyMgr I now have the parts ordered to finally get the vacuum pump installed and put this thing to bed.
#09-05-22-001: Hard Brake Pedal, Extra Effort Needed to Depress Brake Pedal on Cold Start-Up (Add Auxiliary Vacuum Pump) - (Jan 22, 2009)
Good Luck

GM projected, manufactured, and sold ~70% AT4 models. If the ratio of problems to vehicles was identical between AT4 & MT5, you would still expect more than double the total number of problems from the AT4 (70/30=~2.3x) . Some have said that the MT5 experiences the problem less only because it builds vacuum faster after startup (I didn't catch why).
Since there are less MT5s on the road, and since they build vacuum quicker, it makes sense that AT4 fix was a higher priority. But the MT5s still have the same slow vacuum leak.
I am seriously bummed that I have been waiting for this fix, and now it's AT4-only. Am I the only MT5 owner who has experienced the start-up brake problem?

Your the only one I have seen posted for the M5. But I would assme there ould have to be more out there.
How often has yours acted up?
Might talk to the dealer and see if the parts will fit a M5 and if they do see if they can get permission to install them. It is a long shot but would not hurt to ask.
At least you would plant the seed and let them know your still there.

From observation of info in various threads...
... posts about the Stage Kit seem to indicate that there is a specific engine calibration associated with vehicles that have the vacuum pump... and the special "pump" calibration is AT specific.
So, retrofitting the pump hardware to a 5-spd vehicle likely wouldn't just be a case of installing hardware and splicing into harnesses etc... some support would be needed from the software side as well.
Just a note... I have never experienced any issues with my 5-spd. I live in Ontario so the vehicle has definitely seen a huge range of cold-hot temperatures.

Let us know how it goes... I'd probably do mine after you do yours...
