That HHR is the GM Performance/ SoCal Speed Shop Bonneville car. This is the car that they crashed at a pretty high rate of speed last year......it is just about ready to return to the salt. That is one powerful four-banger there.

I took that first picture at SoCal, that is definitely not Photoshopped. It's quite a piece of work.

Nope, from what I remember is was lengthened 1 ft and chopped 6". 1000hp, if I remember!

It missed the speed record the first year, 2005, and wrecked during an attempt in 2006. There's a thread around here with lots of pics and a link to crash pics too.

Sorry, only 800hp, here's a link to a story on edmunds. http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...ticleId=106874

edit

A better article; http://media.gm.com/us/gm/en/news/pr...Cal%20HHR.html

Maybe it wasn't 2007 that it crashed, I don't recall (getting old!). Anyway, I saw it just last month. I would have a better image but this thing was in the way!

I think 1000 hp is a little more realistic for this thing, you could almost put your head in the intercooler outlet duct!

The article mentions 1000hp several times, but the specs quote 800 max HP. Still not bad for less than 2 liters!!

I would love to see more details on what they did to the engine to get that kind of HP.

Do I have to buy 92 or can I just get by with 87 octane.
