Two diffrent animals, with a huge price gap! I think if we were to line up all the offerings from all the car companies, that everyone on the forum could most likely find one or two cars from each manufacture that would suit their needs for everything they desire in a car. I bought my SS for several reasons, but mostly because they have made very few(I very rarely see one, 08+09 is still under 11,000 cars produced) and there is absolutely nothing on the road with the SS's head-turn styling under 30G stock!

I personally think that an All Wheel Drive SS would have been awesome.......

These two vehicles do not compete for the same buyer regardless of price. Discussion is moot.

if the genesis turbo was out at the same time as i bought my hhr, genesis wins. say what ya'll want about non amercan cars, but i bet they don't skimp on things like,i don't know, FLIMSY CLUTCH PEDAL BRACKETS!!!

anyway rwd, looks good, plenty of aftermarket, reliable. i like my hhr ss because there isn't that many owned by young punk kids in my area, but that's a true sports car that's affordable.

The new Hyundais are probably better than many think. They seem to have addressed the quality issues. I looked at a Sonata Limited when car shopping and was really surprised with what you get for your dollar, both quality and featurewise. Compared to the equivalent Hondas and Toyotas, the Hyundai wins hands down in regard to value per dollar.

In my case, when it came down to the actual purchase, you can guess which vehicle won in our family, which is why I'm a member of this web forum.

Even my daughter said she didn't want to show up at her BMX bike races in a Hyundai. Her friends think the HHR SS is "cool".

As expressed to me in the past about another confrontation I find ungenerous, compare the HHR with any other car only for the history that it expresses; so there are no point of views technically or motor that take....the charm that recalls a time gone past but never gone.

and all other

Don't mean to bring up dead threads, but I have been sifting through zillions of posts at this great site and just had to respond to something...

My thought is like many here, it's not the car but who makes it and where does the money finally ended up at, here in the Great US of A or oversees.
Ironic that your HHR is made in Mexico.

I find some of these threads very entertaing, some down right funny[read-out in left field]. All HHR's and especially the SS, is indeed assembled, and some of the parts are made in Mexico. In the American auto business, Chevy, Ford, ect. use lots of parts made in either Japan, Mexico, and even China, so made in American is not entirely true. You'd be surprise how many parts, on a lot of very popular cars, are in made in America [and even Hardly Davidson], and how many are not.
I bought my HHR-SS, because it was unique[I also have a very tricked out 96Chevy Impala SS, for the same reason], and because it is quick and handles, and will be quicker and handle better ,before I'm done.
To compare a HHR-SS to any other car, is just idle talk. they are pretty much in a class by theirself[except for maybe those other things that chrysler made]. They are pretty much classified as a SUV, abeit a fast one at that.
I could go on, but I'll get off my soapbox, and let you guys duke it out, about the comparision. Just please get your facts straight before you spout off.
Then again, Don't, it's sorta entertaing.

I was thinking the same thing most GM products are south of the border. But its the fault of the American worker and greed that put it there. I worked for uaw and I might upset some folks but the truth hurts. The unions made the workers lazy and we are now seeing the effects of greed and the term "not my job" I worked for peterbilt in Nashville and it was very frustrating how the mentality of the uaw killed that place it has closed its doors forever. Bottom line greed and laziness. The foreign car companies saw an opportunity and capitalized on it. and now employ a lot of grateful Americans
