LED's in third brake light - No cruise control. :(

Just replaced almost all the bulbs on the inside and outside with LED's from superbright.....everything was going fine until the third brake light.

Have heard that replacing those bulbs with LEDs will make the cruise control inop - was hoping not to have that problem but no such luck.

Anyone have a solution to fix this?

The stock bulbs are actually brighter than the LEDs but I like the LED look much better.

You need a resistor to mimic the current load that the original incandescents had.

Hmmm...I bought one of the Superbright resistors in case I had the issue where my interiors lights stay on barely but luckily they don't do that.

I guess I can just use wire taps to put it in line with one of the brake lamp main wires?

Don't have a solution, but a reason that you can work with. The cruise control goes off when the brake lights light up, that is were the "off" signal to the computer comes from. In cars that I have worked with the signal was sent directly from the brake light switch at the pedal "ground/no ground". Not sure about HHR or LEDs, just that's the connection between the brake lights and cruise control for your consideration, I know many people are scratching their heads wondering "What's the connection?"

I replaced my third brake light bulbs with 4 WLED-RHP5 from Superbrightleds about a year ago and have had no problem of any kind with my cruise control or anything else.

Used T13-x6 from SuperBright as recommended on their website. I think I'll order the RHP5's and give them a shot - if that doesn't work will try to tie in a resistor to see if that solves it.

Thanks everyone!
