Interior materials could be higher quality, but as far as how those materials are assembled into the finished product, I have no problems with build quality on either car.

i'd prefer paying a lazy American (i'm kinda lazy myself) that doesn't go to work so he can focus on a video game, rather than going to work and just thinking about the game, and not paying attention to what he's doing on the car i'll be driving. i'd pay him, instead of letting profit go into Toyota's pocket for using their sweatshops.

Now the Big 3 need to build in Mexico now to save their companies cause they can't afford to pay $30+/hour and benefits for a guy who has a hang-nail and another who is playing video games at home on a Wednesday afternoon

So Mexico it is....but what do you get for $8 an hour? Would you hire an electrician or plumber for $8/hour.....you'd be swimming in your bathroom or get zapped when you plug in your toaster.....yet they are building our cars in Mexico.
Dude, do everyone a favor and trade your HHR in for a Toyota. If you hate the Big 3 so much, why even bother with it? God, go troll somewhere else.

I've sold both import and domestic, and I can guarantee you I've seen just as many lemons built by Honda, Toyota, and VW/Audi. If the car was as creaky and poorly built as you say it was, why'd you buy it?

BTW, the transmission in your HHR was made in Germany...fantastic German engineering and assembly quality at its finest!

O boy, were do i begin. First off items you have listen does not class it as a lemon. Second its all being covered under warranty and your getting a loaner..

I don't give a crap, if its a GM,Ford, Toyota.. Guess what you COULD have problems with any of them. Just cause the Friggin Grille says Toyota on the Front doesn't mean it won't find itself in the Service department. UAW and the unions are a different thread in itself i will agree with you there. However Quality is Quality it doesn't matter who makes it they all have there issues.

Little information for you and Quality last year Toyota had the most recalls out of any other Company. How is that for Quality?

To add another good comment about German engineering I still love my 1976 Standard Beetle. Last summer I split a connecting rod in two and drove it for three miles before it punched a 2" x 2" hole in the top of the block next to the oil cooler. It only did this because the last guy to work on it put the flywheel on incorrectly.

Fast forward to me pulling a 1969 VW Bus engine out of our open garage to put in the car. It had over 200,000 miles on it and sat for about 20 years. We freshened it up a bit (didn't split it open), and with seven cranks on the key it fired right up!

WOW! I'm with VictorySpark. Here's the deal. All cars have problems, they are man made. By a Mexican, AMerican, European, and Aisan. You keep talking about this Lumina, I dont know how many of those cars I've worked on for squeeks and rattles and oil and coolant leaks. GM is making cars just as good if not better than Ford, Toy, Honda, or any German junk you buy. I've worked on them all. Victory is right, Toyota had the most recalls last year. You dont hear about that. You hear how they are taking over the global #1 spot from GM. HHRcrafty is right, go get you something else and throw the dice. Good luck!!!!!

I have a easy solution get a Honda, don't buy Chevy or GM. I have owned 8 Chevy's and have never had any major problems. Every single manufacture has lemons. you were just the unlucky one to get a car that wasn't built right. If your so pissed Sue Gm and get your money back.

Ironically, I was driving my GP to work this morning thinking "this car still drives, rides and handles like it did when I bought it five years and 91K miles ago".

Do you think any of those car makes producing cars in China or Japan are paying their assembly line workers more than $8 per hour? Not on your life!

You've had some problems which are very disappointing in the early life of ownership and understandable have created a negative first impression of the car. But recognize them for what they are MINOR problems, not necessarily reflective of the overal build quality nor the industry as a whole. Suck it up and reload.

i want to join in on this!!!! now,my only problem with gm or my hhr ss is the fact it was broken from jump, part of that is maybe my fault. a week from sat. it will be about a month since owning the 2 hhr ss. mine have been at my house for 5 days out of the month, not running right. i would trade the creeks and rattles for my problem any day!!!. atleast your clutch problem is a known problem. i see people complain about the rims having fine scratches, rattles and creeks, transmission noises when everyone have the same noise, and other bs. when people like myself have it much worse!!!

what can gm do to make me happy??? well due to MY situation,i would be very happy if they ponied up another ss for me to drive till mine was fixed. i mean it's not like this problem happend 3-6months later. i have yet to experience the car!!! i'm not paying a monthly note to drive a pontiac or whatever!!! my car had 200mi on it when i got it. about 100 of that was put on it coming from another dealer. call me a titty baby, but some people have no idea(then some might)what i'm going through. yes your ss might be perfect, but please allow some of us to vent. don't worry.your day is coming when your ss will be gone 2 weeks or more and no one knows why.

okay im off the soap box
