So I am now cleaning up from the project and sorting the old parts to see what I am going to throw away and what I am going to keep and I noticed something. The long black guide has a piece broken off it. I suppose the piece that is missing is setting in the bottom of the oil pan. It would likely be prudent to take the pan off and fish that piece out. Oh well, another project. I think that it is big enough that it won't really go anywhere but better safe than sorry.

You should be fine, it's big enough to stay in the pan plus it's plastic!

So the saga continues. I have put about 300 miles on the car since the timing chain(s) were replaced. Car ran great. The other day, while driving under heavy acceleration (15psi boost) it seemed to over rev (or got somewhat loud) and the low oil pressure light came on. I immediately turned it off and check oil level and if there were any leaks. Everything looked OK.

I have searched around here for some information but didn't come up with anything useful. What should I be looking for to help diagnose this problem?

Sounds like your oil pump either lost prime or gave up

Did you pop the tensioner? And reset the balance chain tensioner?

There are two tensioners. I pulled the pin on one, and I activated the other like it shows in the Cloyes YouTube video by pushing on the guide with a long socket extension. Like I said, all was well for 300 miles and I drove it hard during those miles. I am hoping it is just the oil pump and that I didn't starve the engine during that over rev (as I call it) situation. Perhaps the broken piece of the black guide did get sucked into something.

Does the whole unit essentially come assembled and ready to install?

Apparently it does, you could drop the oil pan and check out the pickup screen
