if done right we can bolt the cats back in when it comes time to smog . also if you are worried about a visual inspection. let me disclaim first , now I dont recommend this or have I done it myself, but, I hear that you can gut the cat, so visually everything looks in order.

Simple answer. When you go to the emissions, just slap the stock one back on, Pass and then go home and put the new one back on. Simple.

i went to four smog station and watch the tech do this thing, first he sniffed the car if the car passed and no error codes he signed off the car every time, i watch him do 13 cars and the same was done, if the car failed he started looking at the part causing the error code, they never look under the car, none had equipment to lift a car, my question is removing the second cat since it after the c02 sensor it will not throw a error code but will it still be in limits since the limits is a broad range, has anyone smog their car with exhaust mods done.

I'd be curious just how the cat affects the sniffer tests..it would also show just how well the eng was peforming. we are so tuned to having one..what if you could pass without it?
Is it really necessary anymore? The way the puters control everything it makes one wonder. Could be just a money thing,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Usually, a worn out or missing cat will show excess HC and NOx on a sniffer. I'm surprised Kalifornia does an OBDII and a sniffer both, but then again, nothing they do surprises me.

I had a 91 Integra that I took to get an inspection/ sniff test done. The car failed, so I went about replacing what i thought was a bad cat. I ordered a new one, and when I got the old part off, saw that it was not a cat converter at all, but an offroad pipe ( for lack of a better term). it was stainless steel, but completely hollow.
