Stock tires didn't work in 3" of snow a week after I took delivery of my HHR last year. Immediately went out and purchased Michelin Pilot A/S Exalto tires. Excellent in all seasons. Tire Rack has excellent price.

Tried the SS out in 1/2 inch of snow. LOL! I'll be looking to eventually get rims and tires. In the mean time, I'll drive the Jeep.

I put Goodyear F1's on our ss .They ride and handle a lot better then the stock tires .They are a very good all season tire , they work good on ice and snow . They will be the only tire I put on .

Snow Tires Dig it

Snow here in Wisconsin has been plentiful so I opted for real snow tires. I just put on a set of 215/50 17's made by Nokian. My wife freaked out at the price per tire but she's sold on them now.Their rated better than the Blizzaks, I think. They really go through snow. Its nice to stop at the mailbox without getting stuck! In the spring I'll have to buy some new street tires. Any suggestions?

I put Goodyear Eagle F1 All Season's on mine too, for the wet traction. I have to say, they are very sticky in the rain. A requirement for high-torque FWD.

No feedback about snow though. I don't think it ever gets below the bone-chilling 60's or so here, and that's usually only at night.

Trying Goodyear ultra grip

I couldn't get Blizzaks on-line for a 16 inch wheel--on indefinite backorder--so I settled for Goodyear ultra grip performance snow tires. The tread doesn't look much better than the Firestone Firehawks that came with the car, but they are highly rated on Tirerack. Mostly I want to preserve my chrome clad wheels, which are now stored in my basement. My chrome clad PT Cruiser wheels corroded beyond the ability to hold air in the tires in just three winters and the rot spread to wheel brearings and axles. Not making the same mistake twice.

Got our first bit of ice and snow today! Yep I was correct! the SS is crap on ice and snow with stock tires!

I had traction control on and drove it gentle, and it was not even close to as good as the Jeep. I pulled the SS right back in the garage and will be keeping her there all winter.

Jeeps rule in bad weather. If you think it is okay to drive a SS in bad weather you would love a Jeep. Absolute night and day difference.

A Jeep is going to be better than any FWD.

Even with the front not locked odds are you have off road tires or some more aggresive tire on it.

Changing tires is not goint make a HHR a Jeep.

I didn't even clear the snow off the driveway to the Garage the SS is in . . . so it's staying in there till the white stuff melts. . . . TG for big 4x4 trucks! :)

true. But snows will make it much more stable and you can go through much more snow with them (and safely).

I'm big on snows. My wifes van has them as have all of my previous 2wd cars. It's a matter os safety. I want my wife and kids to be safe in both cars. I can't put a price on that. I have yet to get stuck with snows on. Maybe because I know how to drive....maybe becuase of the better traction. Maybe because of both.
$1200 for 17 alloys with Blizzaks. Cheap insurance for me.
