Great info on this! I have a question though.

I've got the "key stuck in the ignition problem." So I was looking at replacing the assembly as my car is out of warranty. Does the part number, 25860318, come with the solenoid, shifter, and boot as the picture with them side by side? I like the bonus of the tray next to the shifter if so. Thanks!

just installed mine in my '06. i ordered through GM (25860318), which was probly a mistake. it cost way more than online, and took em almost 2 weeks to get it in. but it's in and done, and looks great. took about 30-45 minutes to do the complete unit swap. only problem was, upon reinstallation of the chrome trim, apparently i broke one of the retaining clips during removal. i'll fix that later,or get a new one... All in all, i'm completely satisfied with my latest mod. A must have for the older model HHRs.

Yes sir! I agree totally. I got mine in a week from GM Parts Direct. It's a complete unit. The only thing for me was to switch out the knob as the new one was grey and my old one was black. BTW, it fixed my key stuck issue as well!

so to get the top part of the shifter off you just pull up on it? does anyone have a pic of the shifter with the knob off?

You take the knob off. you just gently pry off the leather boot, and remove the screw with an allen wrench. Post #5

I am getting ready today to replace the assembly in my 09 HHR. Any tips?
