3rd Brake Light Mod Step by Step
#31
His first attempt did not quite fit so he tried it again and the second attempt fit perfect.
I'm not sure if he is ready to start doing that as a side job so I'd first have to ask his permission before I start giving out his email address for requests.
But, I requested the letters to be 8 1/2 inches wide and exactly 1 1/4 inches
tall to fit the center of the opening.
He just cut out the letters in black vinyl then attached it to a clear piece of plastic that I taped over the opening from the inside of the glass.

I mean really was there ever any question ??
UMA on the dummy brake is a MUST
I still want to know.. does UMA know ???
I think she might get a hoot out of it :)
Love her line in Kill Bill1 where she tells everyone to go, but they have to leave their limbs behind, as they now belong to her !! I know sick humor

I love the tutorial on how to remove the 3rd light it helped a bunch. Here is an add if you are wanting to make your own lettering. I used Black vinyl that can be purchased from a sign shop or just get there scrap.
I printed out the lettering I planed to use on label paper that has sticky on the back.
I then cut it and the vinyl so that it was the right size to just fit on the light.
and stuck the lettered paper on to the vinyl
Using an exacto knife I cut out the letters and saved the insides of the B, O, and D to stick on later
Use a new blade becuse your cutting thru many layers:
After that peal off the remaining sticky paper, if should come off easy becuse the vinyl is slick. and stick it to the light make sure its the right side up as you dont want to try and peal it off once attached.
and the finished work:

I've had my HHR 3rd brake light here at the house for about two weeks now and my husband is balking on putting in on as he is afraid he'll break the one or more of the tabs on the brake light cover. I have the one that adheres to the glass. He really doesn't want to mess anything up. Any help or encouragment for him-maybe words of wisdom?

Cindy, I broke one of mine and you really cant tell. Ive done several mods that require that cover to be removed. I have found this:
Feel for where the clips are
Make sure you pull STRAIGHT OUT not up or down
Should come off easy but makes a mean, loud POP as the clips let go
