The part #s should still be accurate.

If there have been any changes in #s then the service dept should be able to cross reference the new #.

They charged me 1/2 hour labor. I was very satisfied with that. The radioman got a large charge out of your instructions and copied them for future use. He said they were perfect. The controls work great, and I am very satisfied.

Glad to hear you got them done Dave...regardless of how it happened. My dealer was not so giving when it came to the labor. Glad to hear the guy at the dealer got a charge out of my instructions. Wow...I'm famous now...Chevrolet should pay me to write laymans instructions for techs.

Well.

I should have gone through my Dealer Service Department. I ordered the parts on GMpartsdirect.com. Got a good deal on them; but they were "special order" and so the order was on hold for the past week and half.

They finally arrived today; and the Cover Piece is the wrong color! It's a darker brownish color and my steering wheel is a lighter gray. Since the parts were a special order; I can't return them. But I suppose I can go to my dealer this weekend, and see if they can sell me a matching brown cover for the opposite side of the wheel... and I'll just end up with a "two tone" steering wheel.

Either that; or maybe they'll have the correct piece to match my wheel...

Hmmm... Maybe I'm wrong. I just walked out to my car to compare the two; and though its dark out and I was going by the "dome lights" ... its looks like a very close match.

I guess I'll be able to tell for sure in the daylight tomorrow morning!

You could also buy the matching one from the dealer and sell the other one on the forums. I'm sure someone would be glad to take it off your hands. It's possible the dealer could just swap it out for the right one too.

Yup; we'll see what happens!

Anyone out there got any better photos that show where and how the new wiring harness plugs in. The photos earlier in this thread are great and show how to take the wheel apart; install the new components and all...

But they do not show much detail about where and how the new connectors hook up; inside the wheel.

Hmmm, I think I understand now... looks like this new wiring harness is replacing the existing one thats in there.

Guess I'll figure it out when I pull the wheel apart... of course, with my luck, the airbag will go off right in my face!

Ok I did it!

Just as this entire thread describes, it was easy! I had to cut the wires of the existing Harness however; because they were "attached" the back of the wheel and I could not pull the harness out without cutting the wires.

Now its all said and done; the new controls work wonderfully... the Steering wheel looks fine, as all colors match up just fine.

Except for one minor glitch... not sure how this happened but I suppose I'll have to figure out why and how... the "lever" for actvating the Turn Signals, no longer snaps back into its "off position" when I turn my wheel back straight after taking a turn. I have to flick it myself now to knock it back into its off position. A little annoying; but... well I have no idea how it happened to come about that its doing that now because I wasn't doing anything where that lever is located... and none of the wires that I cut had anything to do with it... I only cut the existing Wiring Harness so I could pull it out and trash it.

I'm sure there's maybe something in there that maybe got bumped or knocked outa whack or something... if I can't figure it out, I guess I'll live with it.

Good for you, now lets see what you need to do?
What is next on your list.
Congrats in doing this mod.

I did the same thing. Mine was hard to unplug and pulling on it, I broke the signal return. I did not order parts thru my dealer, so I took it in and told them it just quit working. Fixed for free. Good Luck
