I installed the switch on my fathers 07. It takes about 15 min. remove the air bag install the switch and plug in the new harness. the only snag I had is that i had to filp two wires in the harness so the switchs would work corectly.( you will find that info farther back in this post } remember when you order the switch cover you have to ask for the right color to match the other side. If i remember right it cost me about 60.00 for all.

I have a 2009 Chevy HHR LS, just added the steering wheel radio controls and now in the process of installing my Sony stereo. I have a simple question, I have the fuse/relay from Schosche (came in a blue box, "NC: 30A/14VDC" "NO: 40A/14VDC" "12VDC 30A/40A"), does anyone know where this goes? Other than that everything's great!

Thanks,
Keith

So now do I need the new part #'s for a 2006, or will those parts only work on a newer model? Do I need the original part numbers listed in the beginning of the thread? Or do they not even make those anymore?

Nevermind... I found on GM Parts direct it looks like the '06-'07 are their own, then must be '08 and up is a new one... Thinking this may be something to do this winter before I get it back out for the spring...that way I can buy a piece at a time (each paycheck) and I don't have to rush to get it done, lol

limited upgrade for 2006

My girlfriend just got a 2006 2LT and her steering wheel controls feel cheap and don't stand out from the base the way the ones do in my 2007. This thread mostly talks about adding the steering wheel controls to cars that never came with them. What I need to do is change BOTH SETS of controls to the later, more beefy style. Is all that's needed just purchase the two switches, remove the plastic cover from the steering wheel, and unsnap and snap in replacements?

Yeah, I know what you mean. I've noticed that the newer models have more of a raised button, where the '06 is just kinda sitting in there.

That should be it with one caveat: In this thread several people outline that some switches need a bit of rewiring at the connector to make it work. So just make sure the connector wiring is the same and give it a shot.

my offer to the ebay guy selling cobalt steering wheels was rejected. He wants full price now. Those of u that got wheels form him for $50 and $70 were lucky. He wants $100 now.

But glad he rejected my offer, cause after making it, i realized the switch trim was silver and i have a cashmere interior with the grayish color tirm.

So before I order the parts, can someone tell me what color the switch trim part number is below and if its wrong for me, what is the correct number?

I have a 2009 LS with cashmere cloth interior.
Thank you

anyone? I'd like to do this as well and don't see a reason that it won't work, but just want to be sure.

Any trouble shooting advice for me: I bought harness 15234343 have the audio switch ending in 51 (and another from a Solstice ending in 58) and the cruise switch ending in 50 which should be correct pieces for the G5. Car has MP3 player CD radio that had the DIC buttons on left and smooth piece on right (where the stereo buttons are). it is a November 2006 built 2007 model year Pontiac G5 with all power options (Like a Cobalt/HHR LT).

The new harness when plugged in has the wires running opposite where the radio would be on the left and cruise on the right. It will pull the other way and do fine which is not really my issue.

The harness has 3 plugs. 1 for the radio, 1 for the cruise, and 1 2 wire plug for? The new harness does not have a "red" plug to get the horn reconnected either.

I did not do anything with the clock spring or any of that, plugged it all in, went to turn on the car and the Service airbag light is on. Radio controls don't work, and I know I have to get the BCM redone to have the cruise function so I can't say if it will work or not. It appears that the buttons light up fine. Not sure what I am doing wrong, or if the steering wheel buttons will not work now that the airbag light is on.

Let me know if there are any fixes. I used my OBD II to try and reset the airbag light, but it did not work so I guess I need a Modis or Tech II for the fix. Do I need a new clock spring or anything to make the rest work, or rewire the unit to get it to run at all?
