How to install an HHR spoiler

For a while I've been wanting to install the OEM spoiler on my HHR. After doing some shopping around, I placed an order through Spoiler and Wing King.

They offer the HHR spoiler for $99.00 + $8.00 shipping,

Their service was top notch and they ship fast with tracking number.

My spoiler arrived today and the quality was Grade A. It was light and came pre-painted with a great finish. It came with all the hardware you need to install it.

So here it goes,

Tools needed: 1/32 drill bit, 9/32 drill bit, 3/8 drill bit, electric drill, screw driver, masking tape, spoiler hardware kit (provided), touch up paint (purchased through dealer), litterature.

Step 1: position spoiler in center. I positioned mine 1/2" space each side of the rear lift gate and 1/2" from the top of the lift gate. Then I taped down the locator strips, removed spoiler and drilled two 1/32" holes on each side.

Step 2: bore the 1/32" holes with a 9/32" drill bit. Do this for each hole on each side.

Step 3: apply touch up paint to each hole to prevent rust and corrosion. Do this for each hole on each side.

Step 4: use a 3/8" drill bit to make an opening for the bolts to fit in. You don't have to do this on each hole, only on the outter sides. Insert bolts through the inside lift gate while having the spoiler sit on top. Align holes and screw in bolts to spoiler. Do not over-tight!

That's it. Hope this helps. Install time took a little under 2 hours and it was a lot of fun.

Thanks everyone. You save a lot of money by doing it yourself too

Just a note: the spacing is based on my own measurements from studying the litterature. You can go as much as 1" spacing from the top of the lift gate to the tip of the spoiler. I believe thats how they come from the factory.

I have mine set at 1/2". Anything less than 1/2" space from the top, the spoiler will hit the roof when you open the lift gate (see pic).

And you must keep the sides at 1/2" so the spoiler can be properly centered.

Installation of spoiler

I just ordered one for my 07 LT. I was wondering why you did not drill the inner holes from the inside of the rear lid to get better spacing in the hole provided. What does the factory spacing say? I will wait to hear from you before installing mine.
