How to Remove the Roof Rails
#24
By the way, when I said I would be removing mine soon, I meant I was having a body shop do it. When I attempted to remove them last summer, one of the nuts that is rivited to the roof spins so it can not be removed unless I take down the headliner to hold it from turning. Plus, the metal around the holes is slightly pulled up from the tension. For it to look right, it needs to be hammered down then bodyworked.
I also have to have the holes from my factory spoiler covered (they also are puckered up). Plus, I removed my roof antenna and replaced it with an inside mount windshield one. Works great and now my HHR doesnt look like a radio controlled car anymore.

Hey not meaning to necro bump but I am considering removing my roof rails. Can someone be kind enough and link the correct bolt to plug up the remaining four holes per rail? I dont want to do a COMPLETE removal in case for some reason I need to reinstall the rails. Also now that I have the SS style spoiler in black it just looks "wrong" to me with bright chrome rails. I do not want to paint them either. Yet lol.

Thats what I am thinking is flush mounts; If I use the same bolts they wouldn't go in far enough to be flush with the mount on the roof correct? I didn't know if anyone else had done this before and know of exact measurements of bolts or what have you (I am not the greatest at that sort of thing). I also wanted to use some of my leftover silicone to further help seal the hole.

Take a bolt into Lowes, Home Depot or any hardware store match up the threads buy pan head or button head bolts and nylon or neoprene washers. Paint them body colour and install!
Or these

If you don't like the look of a bare screw or bolt head sticking up, just find the correct size rubber, plastic or metal plug. Lowes and HD have hundreds of these in different styles. Just take one of the old screws with you and find the size plug that corresponds.
A little dab of silicone sealer will hold them in and make it water tight.
