Sunroof quick fix (for those without warranty coverage)
Mine just broke today. I just bought this car two weeks ago, and I needed to get new tires (thanks to those that recommended on here), I have the clunking sounds from the from suspension, and now this. I thought I was getting a great ride since this car only had 18k miles.... I guess not.
So, in order to fix this, I need to remove headliners, drill our rivets, replace broken part with new part and screws... sounds about right?
Where is the TSB with pics that people are referencing?

wiind screen
I simply removed the wind screen by removing a couple of screws and purchased a stick on wind deflector from one of the advertisers on this site and it's worked perfectly since. wind deflector cost me about $40.

Nice. But the fact remains that the car is 6 years old regardless of the miles. Doesn't matter much what the mileage is when the car has 6 years of the weather and elements it has been through. Parts can break over time.
I wouldn't doubt that it is a "great" ride. Just remember that low mileage cars can still require repairs because of their age.
to the forum MrRiceGuyRJ!The photo "How To" for a functional quick fix starts with post #1 here in this thread, the actual repair procedure as outlined in the TSB is as follows.....
#08-08-67-018: Wind/Air Deflector Bracket on Sunroof Module Broken (Replace Bracket) - (Dec 2, 2008)
Subject: Wind/Air Deflector Bracket on Sunroof Module Broken (Replace Bracket)
Models: 2006-2009 Chevrolet HHR
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Condition
Some customers may comment that the sunroof will not close because the wind deflector won't fold down properly when the sunroof glass closes.
Cause
4236
The end on the wind deflector retaining bracket may have broken off, which causes the wind deflector to function improperly.
Correction
Remove the headliner following SI procedures.
Open the sunroof and protect the interior.
Clean the sunroof tracks around the broken bracket.
Tape off the area around the bracket to contain the drill shavings in the next step.
4237
Using a 1/4 inch drill bit, drill off the head of the two rivets.
Vacuum the drill shavings.
Using a small drift, pound out the rest of the rivet in the sunroof module.
4238
Attach the wind deflector to the new bracket and clamp the bracket in place.
Using the holes as a guide in the sunroof module, drill 1/8 inch holes through the bottom of the new brackets.
4239
Install two 1/8 x 3/8 inch long rivets (obtained locally) through the BOTTOM of the sunroof module to the new bracket.
Apply weatherstrip adhesive to the top of the rivet head.
Replace the bracket on the other side following steps 3 through 10.
Important: Make sure the tracks are clean and no metal shavings are present.
Cycle the sunroof several times to make sure the sunroof functions properly.
Reinstall the Headliner following SI procedures.

Oh my gosh!! this just happened to mine 2 nights ago & on the way home it started to rain and i did just what you said with holding it down with my fingers!
Why would they make plastic arms?
So I am glad to know that I can remove this and it wont interfere with the sunroof being closed tight/leaks. Thank you so much for this post!!

Fix made another problem
So my followed your guys advice and removed the windscreen. Now my sun roof will not close up tight. I am using a wedge of wood to keep it closed now. Any advice for that fix? Just removed the arms and front material brackets.
There is an easy fix to replace the broken mechanism bracket. You don't need to remove the headliner as the TSB recommends. Just drill out the rivets holding the broken bracket from the top, be carful to use the proper size drill as you will need to pop rivet the new bracket back on the rail. Put some silicone on the new bracket to seal for water leaks. You will need a "long nose" rivet tool to be able to pop rivet the new bracket back on. It took me about 30 minutes to complete the job and less than $10 for the bracket. Good luck !
