all cars should have this kind of engineering. this is 2009!!! the winter should be no problem either , just add heaters. it should also get more than 40mpg. or be total electric. and 0 emissions.

 

After more than 100 years of the same design in cars, I completely agree! Seems as if SOMEONE doesn't want things to change.

 

im telling GM i want this on my next car or else........ ill go to the japanese.

 

How would you open that door after an accident? At least a hinged door can be pried or cut off......

 

i was thinking... imagine you had an almost dead battery, didnt know it, and opening the door was the last lil bit of juice the battery had... the door is stuck in the down position, now the battery is 99% completely dead... its -15 degrees OR its raining outside and your door is wide open LOL... awesome looking concept, but the inherent flaws of "what if" would totally destroy the vehicle... at least with a hinged door, if its pouring outside, you can jump in and slam the door right away, that hidden door looks like it would let a LOT of water into the vehicle :S

 

On the website for it, it said it had a manual mode so that you can open or close it in an accident or any other situation where the battery is dead...not sure how it would work though. Do you have to crawl under the car, or what?

 

it could and should have some springs to help pull it / push it. kinda/sorta like a garage door , but not exposed. igwoody anwsered his own question , it could be pryed or cut just as well as a hinged door , maybe even easier. just like a power window can be grabbed and pulled down with your bare hands.
