I used to sell 2 cars a year and ALWAYS required cash for the transaction.....even if it required a trip to his bank.

Had one out of state sale to a guy in NM. He saw the ad in our local Auto Trader. Called long distance, asked some questions and was satisfied wwith the answers. Told him this is a CASH deal and explained my reasoning. Flew down 2 days later with the cash, asked $19,000 and took $18,500.....

I had a situation years ago that really woke me up. Guy came into my office machines store and gave me a cashiers check from my local bank for about $2000 for printer. Being what I thought to be intelligent, I called my local banker and asked if it was OK. She knew of the check and said all was OK, but if I wanted to spend something like $10 I could get it "guaranteed" by the bank. I felt I was being discriminatory against the guy as he was "foreign" so I said, "no - if he's good with you, he's fine with me".
End of story - he took the bank for something like $30,000+ along with me and many others.
So, you can have him pay you by cashiers check, but have it guaranteed by the bank and pay the fee and you should be OK. Obviously, cash is better.

My honey says the best method is a direct wire transfer, It's Guaranteed.

Lately there are a lot of bad bills roaming around. You need to verify those also.

She works in collections at a local credit union and hears most of the stuff happening.

Yep, wire transfer is better than cash. No chance of any counterfeiting there.

The problem then becomes that one party refuses to give the bank their account info due to privacy concerns. Most folks are really ignorant as to what may be secure and what may not be.

Cash is still the best method for the [ignorant] masses.
